It’s been a while, but the National Wrestling Alliance has made its way back to Sarasota, FL.  The current NWA US Tag Team Champions, The Immortals are standing tall in their division but will The Brothers of Funstruction spoil things as they clown around in the main event later tonight?

We’ll find out as we come to you from The Robarts Arena for the first time in a long time. Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and Danny Dealz have the call, and we start with your First Match of the night between…

Daisy Kill and Talos vs The Heavenly Butterflies (Tony Donati and Faboo Andre)

Faster than you can say “Exotic Adrian Street” or “Dalton Castle”, We see the Butterflies in their glory.  Andre is truly “exotic” while Donati is a stark contrast to his tag partner’s flamboyance.  Either way, they have their work cut out with the former NWA US Tag champs, who want to get back to their winning ways and tag gold.

Andre and Kill start the match, and the Butterfly flutters around before Kill clotheslines him in the center of the ring.  Andre plays mind games with Kill until a blind tag allows Donati to come in with a slam and cover for a two count.  There’s great tag chemistry by the Butterflies as the double team Kill,  but that comes to a screeching halt when Talos comes in the ring.  Andre relies on his quickness and agility until he gets caught and Talos and Kill take over with an atomic drop/ big boot combo for a two count.  Kill keeps him grounded and Andre cannot fly away and is a Butterfly in Peril.  Finally, he flutters away in time for a hot tag to Donati and he is Hevanly En Fuego.  He gives Kill a guillotine leg drop between the ropes and goes up top to land double knees to his midsection. The Heavenly Bodies go for their double team finisher (a Clothesline/Lungblower combo) to cover, but Talos breaks the count as he made the blind tag earlier.  He sets up Donati for the choke slam, but Andre sets him on his shoulders and they are twice as tall as Talos.  He proceeds to boot Donati off and a choke slam to Andre ends it.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  Daisy Kill and Talos

Kyle Davis backstage with Dak Draper and Big Strong Mims of Magnum Muscle. Next Week, Mims is putting his NWA Television title on the line against Draper.  Mims wants to be a fighting champ rather than wait for the next challenger.  Draper says that at the end of the day, they have each other back and they are brothers. But during the match, Draper lets Mims know he is bringing his “A” game and Shame on him if he doesn’t.

Hmmmm.  Foreshadowing much?

NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship:  Colby Corino(c) vs. Joe Ocasio

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Ocasio in the squared circle, and he cut weight to avenge his loss to Corino all those months ago.  By contrast, Corino has been on a hot streak and successfully defended the belt in the NWA and other promotions.

There’s some nice chain wrestling to start by both men, but the champ kicks into another gear with a kick to the head and a Corino lands an Olympic Slam for a two count.  He goes for the Sonsetter, but Ocasio scouts the signature move and rolls away.  Corino brings him back to the ring and gives a powerbomb, followed by the Sonsetter on Ocasio to cover for a near fall.  He goes up top, and Ocasio catches him and nails an exploder suplex into the turnbuckles for another two count.  Ocasio slows the pace and nails a running frog splash but still gets a two count.  He gets him in a fireman’s carry, and Corino elbows his head to escape head, but Ocasio still lands a double knee gutbuster.  Too bad he still can’t put Corino away.  He attempts a suplex and Corino hooks his legs and gets an inside cradle for a two count, and then he lands a standing Spanish Fly for another count of two.  Now they battle on the apron and Corino nails a spear from the apron edge, then goes back in the ring with a flying forearm.  Corino keeps on offense with a double underhook powerbomb, then a short arm clothesline and it’s over with the Zeds Dead DDT.

Your Winner via Pinfall, and Still NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion:  Colby Corino

Airica Demia vs. Taylor Rising vs. Allie Recks

For those of you unfamiliar, Recks is a journeywoman who’s wrestled in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and SHINE, to name a few.  Demia, according to my quick research, based her gimmick on the anime/manga My Hero Academia.

Rising is more than a match for both women, and she sends them into the corner and nails a hip attack to kick things off.  Demia throws Rising out of the ring and she lands hard on the concrete floor.  Now Recks and Demia fight and Recks connects with a dropkick for a two count.  Rising comes back in and she and Recks trade blows.  Rising hits her with a trifecta of German suplexes, and the third she covers with a bridge for another count of two.  Demia mixes it up and gives a big chop but Rising plants her with a type of bodypress slam, and she kicks out at two. Recks attempts to sneak attack but Rising sends her to the middle rope, where Demia is also resting.  Rising connects with a tiger feint kick to cover for another two count, first on Demia, and then Recks.  Recks comes back with a big hand and then lands the Eat De-Feet on Rising, but then Demia cracks her with a backfist outta nowhere.  Before she can capitalize, Rising comes back and delivers the double underhook facebuster for the pin and the win.

Your Winner via Pinfall:  Taylor Rising

Backstage with Davis are the members of The Southern Six.  They’ll be facing The Miserably Faithful of Sal the Pal, Gaagz the Gymp, and Judais.  They’ve hit all the strip joints and pool halls, and there are stars in the southern sky when it comes to The Southern Six.  There are no Budget cuts with them since they can afford the fine women and the fast cars and the booze because the view is great on top of Mt Thrillamanjaro, and when you’re hot…you’re hot!  When you’re not…you leave Davis hanging.

Matt Cardona gives the NWA Heavyweight Champion, EC#, a challenge at the Paranoia live event.  It’ll be the Indy God versus The OverMan…in a death match!

Uhhhh….Yes, please!

NWA US Tag Team Championship: The Immortals (Kratos and Odinson)(c) vs. The Brothers of Funstruction (Yabbo and Ruffo the Clown, with Violent J)

The bell rings and Yabbo juggles a bit as Kratos stares a hole at him.  Then he tosses the balls at him, and Ruffo helps with the bear poking and Yabbo tries a sunset flip but Kratos has enough of these clowns and goes after them.  Yabbo bats at his head with his tie, and then attempts a flying shoulder tackle from the top rope and he bounces off The Most Feared.  He grabs a ball and backs back in the center to strike out Yabbo’s…err, little clowns, and he launches him with a suplex to the other side and then sends him back in the opposite direction with the same mode of “transportation.”

Odinson tags in as Kratos has had his fun,  and he attempts to give Yabbo a suplex but he gets out of the hold and tags Ruffo and he nails a neckbreaker followed by a leg drop.  The Brothers double team with an assisted leg drop for a two-count.  Yabbo goes for a big move, but Odinson gives him a pop-up uppercut and whips him into the corner.  He rushes at him, and Yabbo squirts him with his trick flower.  Now Kratos tags in, lands a flying forearm, and then props Yabbo up the top turnbuckle to nail him with a superplex.  He floats over for a two count.  Now Odinson comes back in the ring, and while the ref tries to restore some order Violent J gives Yabbo a balloon and he blows it up and pops it in his ear.  Ruffo tags in and (forgive the phrase) stops clowning around. He dodges a tackle by the Immortal and gives Odinson a flying forearm.  The Brothers are poised to strike, but then a tag team Galli identifies as The Kids interfere and attacks the clowns.  Kratos and Odinson look on perplexed, and the ref calls the bell since…

Your Winners via Disqualification:  The Brothers of Funstruction

However, because of the DQ, the titles do not change hands.  Therefore…

And Still NWA US Tag Team Champions:  The Immortals

The Kids try to stare down The Immortals, but then The Brothers send out the upstarts. Now Yabbo and Ruffo turn their attention back to the tag champs and they continue to brawl up and down the ring as the show goes to the credits.

NWA POWERRR - 12/12/2023
3.5

Final Thoughts:

Nice way to kick off this season’s Return to Robards.  The Immortals look every bit the champs, and The Brothers are starting to grow on me.  I’m not big on disqualification finishes, but this may be something where it builds in the NWA tag division.  Also, kudos to Recks and Demia on their respective debuts, along with The Heavenly Butterflies.

For now, see ya in seven!
