PWInsider’s Mike Johnson is reporting that a brand new women’s Japanese wrestling federation will debut in the USA this September at an event in New York City.

“This would be a completely new entity utilizing women from existing Japanese promotions running their own events here in the States,” Johnson reports.

Johnson also states that the promotion will have increased production value and wants to appeal to mainstream wrestling fans as well as those who follow Joshi promotions like Stardom and Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling which are extremely popular in Japan and beyond.

“To do this, we are told the group behind the company has invested significant resources, and enlisted notable names spanning entertainment, media, wrestling, and fashion as part of its front office,” Johnson writes.

It seems that the new promotion will probably be competing with Spark Joshi launched by SJPA Entertainment in June. Spark wants to be the first promotion in the United States “dedicated to importing the culture and creative approach of Japanese women’s pro wrestling or joshi puroresu”.

“We have such a wide variety of independent wrestling promotions across the US. There’s strong style, lucha libre, hardcore, comedy, and great American women’s promotions,” says “Chibi C.B.” C.B. Liffer, the female co-founder and head booker of SPARK Joshi said in April. “American indie promotions often book Japanese women wrestlers, but as part of male-dominated and decidedly American-style shows. And that’s great exposure in the west for very deserving talent… but SPARK Joshi is the first American company dedicated to importing the culture and creative style. Of course, that comes with the world-renowned standard of in-ring action that joshi wrestling is known for.”

Spark has run its first two events in June one in New York and one in California with stars such as Maki Itoh, Miyu Yamashita, Masha Slamovich, Saki and Rachael Ellering.
