Unless you’re Joe Alonzo, the title picture looks pretty good in the National Wrestling Alliance.  He lost to Kerry Morton at NWA 312, but now he’s got another bite at the apple as he tries again to claim the NWA Junior Heavyweight championship in the main event of this NWA Powerrr show.

Right now, Kyle Davis is in the ring with the NWA Heavyweight champion, Tyrus, and Jordan Clearwater.  After the “N-W-A” chants die down and they cheer for Tyrus (“They Like me.  They really do like me!”), the champ gives props to Adonis for bringing his  “A”-game.  He also gives it up for “the men and women who bleed and sweat in this squared circle,” to the fans’ delight.

Tyrus explains he’s entering The Crockett Cup.

Tyrus also brings up the Crockett Cup, and how he is a wrestling history buff. He holds the Twelve Pounds of Gold, but he wants to also add the Cup. Clearwater thanks him for accepting him as a teammate in the Crockett Cup, and suggests their team name be, “The Golden Smash.”  Tyrus responds with, “Nice.  Not thrilling, but nice.”  Except there’s one small thing:  he hasn’t chosen a partner. Clearwater says he’s joking, but that does not appear to be the case.

We come to you from StudioOne in Highland Park, Il. Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and Danny Dealz have the call as the First match of the night is for the…

NWA World Television Championship: Thom Latimer (c) “Psycho Boy” Fodder ( with Angelina Love)

The match is contested under the television rules with 6:05 minutes on the clock.  The early minutes of the contest have Latimer in control with solid technical wrestling that frustrates the Psycho Boy.  As Latimer hits the ropes, Love grabs his boot from the outside.  Distracted, Fodder attacks with a Polish hammer at 4:12, and then he sends the champ into the steel post and then get back in the ring. Love rakes Latimer’s back for good measure, and now Fodder is in full control as he rams his head from pillar to post and scrapes his eyes over ropes at 3:18.  Then Fodder slingshots him to the mat and blatantly chokes Latimer, but lets up before the five count by the ref.  He shoulder tackles Latimer’s midsection in the corner and nails a snap cutter at 2:14.  Fodder receives a nice lick by love and covers for a two count.  He proceeds with leg drops multiple times at 1:20 but just can’t put the champ away.  He grabs his “Psycho” (kendo) stick and whacks it across Latimer’s back, and he just shrugs it off. with seconds left on the clock, Latimer nails a pop-up powerbomb and cinches a crossface as Fodder taps out.

Your Winner via Submission, and Still NWA Television Champion:  Thom Latimer

Latimer now has two victories under his belt, and he gets closer to a lucky seven defense to cash in a possible opportunity at the Ten Pounds of Gold.

May Valentine is backstage with Kerry and Ricky Morton, and The NWA Junior Heavyweight champ lifts every catchphrase from saying that “The cream rises to the top,” to being  “The epitome of the NWA and the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n Rolla!”

Ricky is a little concerned with his son’s gimmick infringement and bluster but says in so many words that they will team at Crockett Cup.

Valentine next has “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason and Pollo Del Mar, and he will face Odinson in the main event on the next NWA POWERRR.  Mason acknowledges he’s a foreign nation from Asgard, and says his ass won’t be protected from his size 16 boot. Del Mar chimes in and tells Odinson that you never lay hands on her, and her man will even put his National title on the line to sweeten the pot.  Valentines asks why, and Mason and Del Mar express it’s so the stakes are higher and they’re gonna kick it into high gear.

And now for some women’s action, we have up next…

Natalia Markova vs. La Rosa Negra

As the match, gets underway, Markova and Negra have a bit of a, shall we say…twerk off (Google it!)  As Markova shows off her ample backside, Negra admires it by giving her the boot.  Now they get down to business and both women are evenly matched, and as Markova gets an arm drag, the second one has Negra slam on the brakes and drive her face first to the mat.  Markova comes back with a swinging neckbreaker for two and follows with some chops.  She then attempts a head scissors takedown, but Negra stops mid-rotation but Markova still manages to send her down.  She nails with a shotgun dropkick and covers Negra for a two count.  She tries her signature Beautiful Disaster kick but misses the mark, but Markova connects on Negra with a cutter for another two count.  They both fire live ammo with chops and then kicks come into play.  Markova lands with a running knee and pins Negra for one, two…nope.  She picks up The Crush and spins her around before nailing a spinebuster for a two count.  As Negra stacks her up the top turnbuckle, Markova comes down on her with a missile dropkick and then nails the Beautiful Disaster kick, followed by a double arm DDT that earns the three count.

Your Winner via Pinfall:  Natalia Markova

Valentine is now with Ella Envy as she asks how she will feel facing Kenzie Paige for the Women’s Television title. Envy goes full Valley girl and swears that she is her best friend, sister, and tag partner, and she can’t believe Valentine is “so disrespectful!”  Envy says she will win the title and keep it in the Pretty Empowered team because…besties.

Valentine is now with EC3 and he feels vindicated after claiming the NWA National Championship from Cyonat the PPV.  He says he is one step away from his final form, and that will be when he claims the Ten Pounds. EC3 also promises he will defend the title anywhere and against anyone.  The Over Man also promises he will not look over Odinson or Mason, because he is EC3.

Speaking of not overlooking things, it’s time for The Main Event and this is for the…

NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship: Kerry Morton(c) vs. Joe Alonzo (with Jamie Stanley)

This rematch has Alonzo staying focused, and Morton comes to the ring more cocksure than ever.  More telling is the fact that Morton enters without his famous father.  While there are half cheers for Morton, almost everyone boos the Chicago native Alonzo.  Morton has a strong start early in the match, but as Stanley distracts from ringside Alonzo takes advantage and pounces.  Morton returns fire and hits a dropkick to Alonzo to send him scrambling to the corner where he and Stanley confab on another strategy.

Morton goes after Alonzo and gets dazed by Alonzo as he sends him face-first into the middle turnbuckles.  He backs off to talk to the ref, and Stanley chokes Morton on the ring ropes.  He follows with a suplex and gets dirty, but he can’t put away Morton.  Alonzo plants the champ with a brain buster but Morton floats over and covers the challenger but only gets a two count.  Alonzo comes back with a scoop slam and grinds his boot into his eye to slow the pace down.  Morton looks to be on the ropes but he catches him with a step-up enzugiri and then a powerslam to Alonzo for another two count.  He follows with a Findlay roll and then lowers the kneepad for the Kiss It Goodbye.  He misses and Alonzo goes for a quick rollup but only manages a close two.  Morton finally delivers the Kiss It Goodbye and covers Alonzo, but he has the presence of mind to get his foot on the bottom rope to stop the count.  As Morton tries to figure out his next move, Stanley gets on the ring apron and Morton almost tackles him.  Alonzo rushes and Morton moves out of the way, as he crashes into his manager.  Morton goes for his elbow strike finisher, but Alonzo reverses to attempt his Roll of the Dice, but Morton schoolboys him and pins his shoulders to the mat with a handful of tights for the one, two, and three.

Your Winner via Pinfall, and Still NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion:  Kerry Morton

Alonzo and Stanley are in disbelief, but the bigger story is that Morton did a pretty underhanded thing to secure the win and keep the title, and it looks like he is inching closer to being a heel as the show goes to the credits.

NWA Powerrr - 4/18/2023

Final Thoughts:

While I wish a title change by Alonzo happened, I do like the slow burn of Morton slowly becoming more of a jerk.  Where it goes from here is anybody’s guess.  Latimer and Fodder had a good exchange in an all-too-brief match, but I hope this becomes a bigger feud if Kamille gets into the picture more with her husband.

Tyrus in The Crockett Cup will be interesting with whoever he pairs with…except not Clearwater.  Sorry, Golden Boy.

For now, see ya in seven!
