According to a press release by Upper Deck back in March 2023, “AEW, the red-hot professional wrestling promotion taking the world by storm, will be the newest big-box edition of its popular Vs. System 2PCG tabletop card game.” In this trading card game, often abbreviated as TCG, “players build 60-card decks of supporting characters, resource locations, plot twists and equipment to use along with their main character card. The objective of the game is to knock-out the opponent’s main character.”
Other popular TCG’s include Pokémon and Magic the Gathering, while Upper Deck’s Vs. System already features Marvel-licensed characters, but AEW is Upper Deck’s first inclusion of professional wrestling into their Vs. System card game.
“Even better,” says Nicole Brief, on behalf of Upper Deck, “the AEW set includes two team affiliations that can be used as a standalone game or mixed with other properties in the Vs. System universe, including Marvel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Files, Alien, and Predator,” so if you’ve ever wanted Orange Cassidy to go head-to-head with Spider-Ham, this is your chance.
The AEW Vs. System starter box, which is now available on the Upper Deck store, contains 200 cards, including twelve main characters and 28 supporting character cards. Fans will see Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, MJF, Jon Moxley, Sting, Darby Allin, Dr. Britt Baker, Jade Cargill, Kris Statlander, Thunder Rosa, Orange Cassidy, and Malakai Black to start, so one can predict these boxes will be in demand by wrestling fans and collectors and TCG players alike.
