Sho sent a message to IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Desperado on night six of the New Japan Cup.
Once all of Suzuki-gun has left the ring after their match against Los Ingobernables de Japón, Sho ran out from the backstage area blindsiding an already exhausted Desperado. Both men brawled their way back to the ring.

Sho hurled Desperado into a steel post and a ringside barrier. He then heaved him chest-first into the steel post again. Inside the ring, Sho kicked Desperado in the “lower abdomen” and hit him with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in the head. Sho laid the belt beside a KO’ed Desperado before leaving the ring.
In New Japan Cup action, Zack Sabre Jr., The Great-O-Khan, Will Ospreay and SANADA all advanced to the next round.
