He is proud to be the champ and proud to be British. Just hours after night two of WrestleMania concluded, new WWE Champion Drew McIntyre spoke to BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Ace.

“I am still trying to understand how this is real. It is crazy just hearing it out loud for the first time,” said McIntyre about being the first ever British WWE Champion. It is a surreal experience to him.

McIntyre spoke about his 19 years of clawing his way up from the bottom and fighting for that top spot at WrestleMania.

“It feels really good to me and I hope it made a lot of people smile and hopefully inspire a lot of people out there. If you put your mind to it and work hard enough, you can do absolutely anything,” he said being interviewed remotely from his home.

McIntyre said he was honoured to be part of an industry that is taking people’s mind off the real world, providing a meaningful distraction at the present time.

McIntyre thanked everyone who has always believed in and supported him throughout his career.

“I am proud to be from Scotland. I am proud to be from the U.K.,” he said.
