MONTREAL — Despite what have been reported since Sunday on many websites, Quebec wrestler Tomassino (Jonathan Boivin) has not signed any contract with WWE.
He was backstage at Breaking Point in Montreal and on the following Raw and Smackdown tapings in Toronto and Hamilton, got a try-out in the afternoon and was used as security for Teddy Long on Smackdown.
Tomassino told SLAM! Wrestling there were some talks between him and WWE, but no contract has been signed. The two parties will probably talk again in the future.
MWF Promotions, one of the companies Boivin works for in Quebec, reported on their Facebook page that Boivin obtained a development contract with WWE. The report was in French and when translated by an unknown party, it said that he has signed a development deal with WWE, which is not the case.
When contacted, Boivin was unfortunately not aware of the report, stating that he has nothing to do with this false rumour.
Boivin, who also wrestles under the name of Darkko, is 27 and has wrestled since 2000 on the Quebec independent scene, working for many promotions. He has also worked in Ontario a few times.
At 6-foot-8 and 280 pounds, he caught the attention of Pat Patterson at a small Montreal show months back.
According to reports, Tomassino did well in the try-outs he was given in Montreal and Toronto.
“It was a great experience for me,” said Boivin, referring to the three shows he attended. “I hope to have the chance to work again for WWE.”
Also incorrect in the various media reports was Tomassino’s association with former WWE tag team champion Sylvain Grenier. Although Grenier was backstage with him last weekend and has been a great supporter of his, Grenier did not train Tomassino for professional wrestling. Former International Wrestling competitor Ludger Proulx and his brother Serge trained him for the squared circle.
Boivin is scheduled to work for Grenier’s promotion, TOW, in Montreal next Friday, at a show where Pat Patterson will be honoured.
