After taking one year off, Upper Deck and AEW have brought back what I called, last time around, the surprise hit of the year, 2024 Upper Deck Allure AEW. Upper Deck Allure is AEW’s “chrome” set of wrestling cards, and for that reason, has become a fan favorite, and is a welcome return. Upper Deck Allure is AEW’s third, and likely final, wrestling card release of 2024, after its flagship 2024 Upper Deck AEW set and the premium 2024 Upper Deck Black Diamond. In short, 2024 has been a great year for Upper Deck AEW cards, after releasing only one new set in 2023 (not including epack cards), and I hope this continues in 2025.
Since I hadn’t opened a box of Upper Deck Allure AEW since December 2023, I was eager to see what the 2024 set had in store for us, and I was generously given a box to review by Upper Deck.
The first card of my first pack of 2024 Upper Deck Allure AEW was Wardlow, and I was really struck by the bold design of the card. The nameplate is simply huge, so there’s no mistaking who’s on the card. The design makes it look like the name of each wrestler is cracking the ground beneath. If you like chrome, this set is for you, because the background of each card is all chrome, with nothing else in back except some light swirls, which look to be gusts of wind. It’s a really striking design with no other AEW card looking like it, not even the previous Allure AEW set.
After Wardlow, I pulled an Anna Jay Color Flow insert, which is the signature insert set of Allure. This Anna Jay was a red-orange parallel, which is the most common of parallels, but still looked fantastic. Next, I pulled a PAC Straps insert, which doesn’t look too different from the base set, then a Billy Gunn black rainbow parallel card, and an Eddie Kingston Crowd Reaction insert.
Pack two began with Action Andretti and Angelico base cards, then an Eddie Kingston orange-yellow Color Flow, then an Adam Cole red pulsar parallel, which looks great with the chrome stock. Next I pulled a black and blue Kamille parallel numbered out of 35, which is one of the rarer parallels to pull, which is great, but the color is almost too dark to read her name.
In the next pack, I pulled a red-orange Color Flow of Adam Copeland aka “Cope,” a Jack Perry orange slice parallel, and a Wheeler Yuta AE Dub insert card. So far, most of the inserts have big, bold lettering, like the base cards, which creates a more playful, almost comic book theme.
Lee Moriarty and Nick Wayne base cards began pack four, then I pulled a green-blue Mariah May Color Flow, and after pulling a few of these, I just have to say this is still a great looking insert set, plus green-blue is one of the rare parallels of Color Flow, so I really like this card of the AEW Women’s World Champion. Next, I pulled a Trent Beretta In Action insert, then a Nick Jackson red pulsar In Action card, then a Deonna Purrazzo green quartz In Action numbered out of 99. I don’t think I’ve ever pulled back to back to back inserts from the same set in one pack of cards, so I thought this was pretty funny.
In pack five, I pulled a red-orange Color Flow of Mariah May, then a Straps insert for Death Triangle (Penta, Fenix, and PAC), a Killswitch black rainbow parallel, and a Dante Martin Aerial insert.
Pack six included a Julia Hart orange-yellow Color Flow, a Komander black rainbow parallel, a Swerve Strickland Aerial insert, followed up by an AR Fox base card, which I found amusing considering Swerve and Fox’s in-ring history.
In my penultimate pack, I pulled an Adam Cole red-orange Color Flow, Red Velvet In Action, and an Eddie Kingston This is Awesome insert, which made for the third Eddie Kingston insert I pulled in seven packs of cards.
In my eighth and final pack of 2024 Upper Deck Allure AEW, I pulled a Julia Hart yellow-green Color Flow, a Lee Moriarty In Action insert, a Mercedes Moné black diamond parallel, and finally a Kenny Omega green quartz Straps insert numbered out of 99.
All in all, 2024 Upper Deck Allure AEW is a fun and great looking set of cards, and I’m glad it’s back.
Trading card collectors love chrome cards, and Allure remains the only chrome stock set of AEW cards, so it holds an important place in the AEW brand of wrestling cards. Plus, Allure remains an affordable product, with hobby boxes of eight packs of cards running for a little over $100 a box. You won’t get a big hit or autograph in every box, but if you want some fun, affordable, and great looking AEW cards, 2024 Upper Deck Allure AEW is the way to go.
