Countdown to SummerSlam

Nikki A.S.H.: -125. Charlotte Flair: +150. Rhea Ripley: +250. Winner: Nikki A.S.H.

If WWE Creative are serious about Rhea Ripley as a main event star than she should win the match by pinning Charlotte Flair.  Unfortunately as much as that would be the ideal outcome it seems more probable that Flair regains the RAW Women’s Championship only for Becky Lynch to come out at the end of the match for a confrontation.

The whole Nikki superhero thing is beyond lame and so too is this feud which has been dragged out for so long or at least it seems to have been. What would be really cool is if Nikki, because of the crowd reactions, etc, became a super villain. Winner: Rhea Ripley.

Roman Reigns: -500. John Cena: +300. Winner: Roman Reigns.

Really no interest in this match either. It seems the WWE will feel compelled to make Cena’s wish come true and stick it to Flair but Cena will probably lose it back to Reigns in the rematch. Winner: John Cena

Bobby Lashley: -600. Goldberg: +350. Winner: Bobby Lashley.

WWE has long wanted to proclaim that a wrestler who spent his entire career in their company as the greatest of all time.  Yet the one thing that has tripped them up were the 16 championship reigns by Ric Flair.  With the goodwill that Cena has been receiving during this current run there has never been a better time for the Doctor of Thuganomics to win his 17th world title.  Yet it is likely that Cena will only be in WWE a short while after SummerSlam and having Reigns drop the Universal Championship would not be what is best for business in the long term.  So which way will it go?  Cena will win the Universal Title at SummerSlam only to drop it immediately back to Reigns at the following episode of SmackDown.

Goldberg only has a few matches left on his WWE contract. It might make sense to throw the belt to Goldberg until Survivor Series or he could be just another in Lashley’s cap. Winner. Goldberg.

The Usos: -450. The Mysterios: +275. Winners: The Usos.

The ideal time for a match between Rey Mysterio and Dominick Mysterio is WrestleMania in 2022.  Thus while there has been some tension between the two Mysterios teased the last little while look for them to regain the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam.

One of the only current WWE feuds that I find fun or interesting. Somehow, I think the Mysterios will start to experience some frustration and this could be the start of that. Winners: The Usos.

Edge: -300. Seth Rollins: +200. Winner: Edge.

This is likely the match of the night with both Edge and Rollins trying everything they can to destroy the other.  Likely it won’t be a clean win for either competitor as this feud seems destined to go a few more months, but Edge will probably get the win at SummerSlam with Rollins pummelling him afterwards.

Edge gets his big moment and his big win here. Lynch comes to the ring to comfort Rollins as he begins a shift back to a face in order to challenge Reigns in the future. Winner: Edge

Damien Priest: -240. Sheamus: +165. Winner: Damien Priest.

It has always seemed that if Sheamus had been given the right booking he could be an extremely dominant heel in the main event picture.  Regardless he and Priest should put on a hard hitting bout with the Celtic Warrior hanging onto the US strap.

This one has been coming for some time. Expect Priest to be rewarded here. Winner: Damien Priest.

Drew McIntyre: -600. Jinder Mahal: +350. Winner: Drew McIntyre.

With WWE’s tendency of prolonging feuds look for Mahal to cheat his way to a victory with McIntyre taking out his frustrations on Veer and Shanky afterwards.

Drew wins with or without Excalibur. Winner: Drew McIntyre

Bianca Belair: -220. Sasha Banks: +155. Winner: Bianca Belair.

 There have been some rumours over the weekend that Belair and Banks missed two live events with no explanation as to why.  As a result there is some question as to whether this match will actually take place at SummerSlam.  If it does the logical outcome would be for The Boss to regain the SmackDown Women’s Championship as Belair due to a lack of viable challengers (in part due to the injury to Bayley , the WWE layoffs, etc.) has kind of exhausted her run as champion.

Belair’s storied run ends here. Banks will regain the title and carry it into Survivor Series. Winner: Sasha Banks

Alexa Bliss: -470. Eva Marie: +295. Winner: Alexa Bliss.

Definitely a candidate for Worst Match of 2021. Imagine what it must be like to appear on national television every week as a 30-year-old woman acting like you are eight. The gimmick is laughable not eerie or scary and Eva should have stayed on Big Brother. Winner: The concession stands. (Alexa Bliss).

Randy Orton & Riddle: -220. AJ Styles & Omos: +155. Winners: Randy Orton & Riddle.

You know where this is heading, bro. AJ and Omos are ready to break up so Omos can be elevated to Mania status and RK-Bro is apparently a thing with WWE fans, bro. Winners: RK-Bro. Bro. Bro. Bro.
