NWA Powerrr: Mystery Opponents for Country Gentlemen Tag title defense

On this NWA Powerrr, we’ll say a final farewell to Trevor Murdoch, but there is still lots of action going on. From Mike Mondo facing Bryan Idol as he puts up the NWA National Championship on the line, to The Country Gentlemen in KC and AJ Cazana giving their first world tag title defense against a mystery team in the main event.

Who comes out on top this night in the National Wrestling Alliance?

We’ll find out as we come to you from ThePowerrrStation in Tampa, FL. Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and Danny Dealz have the call, but in the ring with Kyle Davis are the Cazanas, and the fans do not show them love. Well, they kinda do, even chanting “KFC” at Papa Joe, who is unhappy with the treatment.

He then tells his sons and us that there is good and bad news. The good news is they’re the NWA World Tag champs, but the bad news is they have to defend the belts tonight against a mystery opponent. In any case, it won’t matter as they’ll do it By the Book.

At the NWA Training Seminar, Tiffany Nieves talks about what it takes to be a champ, unlike Gisele Shaw and Natalia Markova. After running her down, that brings out The Crush, but she’s stopped by Gretta before things go any further.

Bryan Idol cuts a promo about etching his name in history. He has a chance to take Mondo and his title in order to get to the Ten Pounds of Gold, and this is the night that Looks Kill, and so does he.

With that, it’s time for your First Match of the Night between…

Da Pope vs. Richard Adonis

Big Strong Mims joins the commentary as Dealz seems to vacate his spot. During the match, The Lights come out (the two guys in white cover-up masks, looking like they came out of the Wu-Tang’s “36th Chamber” album. Tell me I’m wrong.)

As for the match, Adonis comes in with a full head of steam, but Pope thwarts a monkey flip, and he proceeds to chop down the young blue-chipper. Adonis has a few tricks up his sleeve, like a top rope-assisted stomp on Da Pope’s head, and follows with a Second rope moonsault for just a one count.

Adonis presses on, but Pope calls for a time-out and gives a Tracy Smothers-style double chop to the throat. Adonis manages to overcome this and is still looking good as Pope rolls out of the ring. The Lights then slide into the squared circle and give a double team Nightmare Pendulum while the ref focuses on Da Pope.

Pope rolls in, delivers a fist drop, and wins the match.

Backstage, Pope is feeling rejuvenated and mighty. He feels illuminated and hopes Mims saw The Light, too. He did…but thinks the Light showed Pope the way to victory. Either way, Pope feels that Mims needs him more than anything. Mims chuckles…but briefly.

Next in the ring is Eric Smalls, and the Half Pint Punk is in the ring wearing Daisy Kil’s jacket as a trophy. But tonight, he is here for his…

Before we get into this, allow me an…

(Author’s Note: I suddenly feel less guilty about my short jokes.)

In any case, Big Cuzzo answers the challenge and gives him a big boot before mounting with punches. Smalls comes out biting like a feral raccoon, but one slam later and Cuzzo wins.

After the match, out comes Daisy Kill to grab his jacket back and celebrates with Cuzzo. Apparently, this was his plan all along, and he wants Smalls in his rearview.

Stevens preps Mondo for his upcoming title match, and Wrecking Ball Legursky wants in on the Federation of CHampions (and The Slimeballs). Stevens denies him again (mostly because he broke his favorite brush) and goes full Mick Jagger, saying you can’t always get what you want.

Either way, that earworm isn’t leaving for a while. You’re welcome.

In the ring with Kyle Davis is Trevor Murdoch, and he thanks the fans as he announces his retirement (which we broke the exclusive at The Crockett Cup).

As he lists all the things he has done in his career, Knox comes out with a gift: the robe and crown that Harley Race once wore. As he puts on the trappings his mentor once wore, Murdoch tells us how stupid we were to believe he was done with wrestling, announcing he will never retire and demanding that people address him as King Trevor Murdoch I.

Well, time for another…

(Author’s Note: Well, this is another surprise I didn’t have on my bingo card this year. I will say this: If it’s true that he is not done, then I say, “Wonderful.” What that means for Murdoch’s future remains to be seen. But one thing is for certain…I really need to be better about checking the sincerity of my sources.)

Up next is title action for the..

NWA National Championship: Mike Mondo (with Aron Stevens)(c) vs. Bryan Idol

Once the bell rings, Mondo drops him and he starts pummeling The Looks That Kill.

A sling blade by Idol, and he sends him to the corner with chops, followed by a double underhook suplex. Mondo drops him outside as Stevens taunts him. Then he drapes the apron on Idol’s head and clubs away. Idol is in bad shape, but attempts to stage a comeback. They slug away, and Idol lands with a moonsault, but gets a two count. Then Slade comes out for interference, but “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason cuts him off at the pass.

The distraction allows Mondo to hit a diving head butt, but Idol kicks out at the count of two. Idol attempts his Unprettier, but Kerry Morton slams a chair across his back, and the interference lets Mondo hit Gut Check Time to retain the title.

Mason sees Morton and chases him to the back, and this is getting more interesting by the day.

But it’s time for the Main Event, and it is for the…

NWA World Tag Team Championship: The Country Gentlemen (KC and AJ Cazana, with Col. Joe Cazana)(c) vs. Thom Latimer and El DragΓ²n Nihan

Nihan and Latimer are the mystery tag team, and these two have made advances up to the quarter finals of The Crockett Cup, when they were stopped by the Titans of Calamity.

Nihan and KC start, and he slams his head hard to the mat. He quickly tags in big brother AJ, and he gets a taste of the Puerto Rican Monster.

They double-team Nihan, but soon realize they are overmatched. Latimer comes in, and he shows the Cazanas a thing or two. Papa Joe gets on the apron to argue with the ref, and that allows the Gentlemen to blindside the King of all Evil.

Now, AJ and KC keep him isolated in the corner, and Latimer is in Peril. The Gentlemen have some fun, even as KC shows that White Lightning leg drop.

Latimer manages to escape and gets a hot tag to Nihan, who is El DragΓ³n en Fuego.

Nihan sets up AJ for a double team move, but he gets out of the way, and Latimer hits his partner instead. As he tries to apologize, Latimer gets sent out, and The Country Gentlemen double team to little effect on Nihan.

Papa Joe slides the book in, and AJ clocks Nihan with the NWA Rule Book as the ref argues with KC, and he covers for the one, two, and three.

Your Winners, and Still NWA World Tag Team Champions: The Country Gentlemen

They got away by the skin of their teeth. Nihan was upset by the loss and Latimer consoles him…but he eats a fist by the monster. Brandon McCord comes out, and he seems to be directing the Puerto Rican monster as refs try in vain to get him off Latimer.

For now, it appears McCord has a new monster for his collection as the show comes to a close.
