Did you think dealing with your racist/drunk uncle at Thanksgiving was tough? This episode of NWA Powerrr proves you have it light, as this show features all sorts of fisticuffs and fowl play with CJ and Aron Stevens in a Turkey Gobbler match, plus the debut of something(?) Spectacular in the main event with The Southern Six.

But first, a quick word from Joe Galli on behalf of the National Wrestling Alliance as we jump to the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday, and what led to the First Match of the night…

We come to you from the Skyway Studios in Nashville, TN. Joe Galli and Danny Dealz have the call, and Stevens is in the ring. He has the mic and talks about being hit in the nethers and will make a “Turkey Gobbler cobbler” out of CJ.

Thus begins the first…

Turkey Gobbler Match: CJ (with Cody James and “Magic” Jake Dumas) vs Aron Stevens (with The Carnies)

Instead of Blunt Force Trauma, local Tennessee wrestlers Nick Iggy and “The Gargoyle” Kerry Awful second Stevens, and it appears they have heat with Magic Inc, who prompt CJ to head in the ring.

As for the match itself, it will be a grappling match where no fists or kicks will be used.  Just old-fashioned pins and submissions.  CJ looks every bit oblivious to her surroundings but looks can be deceiving as she baits Stevens at every turn.  She hits the ropes and The Carnies trip her up.  Stevens looks to take advantage and Magic Inc. trips him up to return the receipt.  Then chaos erupts as The Carnies and Magic Inc brawl in the ring and to the outside.  Stevens even sends Dumas over the top rope, and with that distraction, CJ comes from behind and cinches the STF and he taps out.

Your Winner via Submission:  CJ

Two things that I enjoyed after this match:  Galli got to use the phrase, “Aron Stevens has been hoisted by his own petard.”  Plus, this image:

Magic Inc. makes Aron Stevens gobble like a turkey.

You are not a wrestling fan until you chant, “Turkey Hat.” Best scene ever.

At The Podium with Kyle Davis is Father James Mitchell and Max The Impaler, and the Devil is getting his due. Now that Sal and Gaagz the Gymp are back in the fold, they will seek domination of the NWA. He also mentions Max toured Europe and Japan and got a title belt.  Plus, Mitchell lets us know that the current NWA Women’s Television champ pinned the NWA Television champion, Big Strong Mims, and suggests Max may challenge him for his title next.  But no matter who is in the squared circle, Mitchell tells us to prepare for the age of the Warrior of the Wasteland.

Strong challenges ahead, apparently.  But let’s go back to the ring for your next match between…

Big Mama vs Kylie Paige

The fans are solidly behind the ten-year veteran Big Mama, and Paige is now realizing she has a tall order in the form of the One Woman Wrecking Crew.  Her size and strength keep the other half of the NWA Women’s Tag Team champs at bay until Paige jumps from behind and goes for a sleeper hold.  Mama manages to shrug her off and slam her to the center of the ring.  She attempts a leg drop that misses the mark and Paige quickly goes on the offensive, as she nails Mama with a basement dropkick to send her out of the ring and does not let up on Big Mama.  Once she gets back in, Paige has her in a waistlock, and Mama holds her and does a variation of the Big Swing to discombobulate Paige.  She ducks out and Mama gives chase.  Once she gets back in the ring, Paige goes for a stomp but Mama is back up and whips her hard to the corner, following with a splash.  Mama seeks a hip attack, but Paige moves out of the way in the nick of time.  In the opposite corner, Mama rushes for a tackle and Paige uses her momentum where she is stunned by the ring post and rolls up Big Mama for the win.

Your Winner via Pinfall:  Kylie Paige

Now at The Podium with Davis are The Slimeballz, Sage Chantz and Tommy Rant.  They want to take the NWA to Slime Ball City and it’s never pretty. What time is it? It’s Slime time.

Is that Eastern time or Arizona time?

Backstage with May Valentine is Tim Storm, and he says he will be returning to wrestling full-time.  Although he’s been at commentary for the last two to three years, he’s not done with the squared circle and states any wrestler that says they’re done, they’re wrong.  He’s even reached Jax Dane to tag team with him and alludes there is a chance they can challenge for the NWA Tag Team belt held by Blunt Force Trauma.

Now we have a four-way match with some unknowns.  No graphics, but I was able to catch some names like Adrian Thomas, “Hollywood” Hunter James, and Jackson Drake (couldn’t tell about the fourth name).  This feels more like a dark match.  It’s not bad, but not memorable either.  I will say of the four, James had the most charisma and polish, with ring gear that evoked an Outrunner feel.  James delivers the brainbuster for the win.

Moving along, Galli alerts us to an incident where Samantha Starr was involved in an altercation in the ring.  We see the footage as she was practicing drills in the ring, and then Chelsea came in behind her to run the ropes.  We can see on the camera footage Starr proceeds to attack her for no reason, and then it cuts out from there.  Looks like the makings of a feud in the women’s wings.

Now it’s time for the Main Event with…

The Southern Six (“Thrillbilly” Silas Mason, Kerry Morton, and Alex Taylor) vs. The New Spectaculars 1.0 (Rush and Rolando Freeman, and ????)

But let’s catch you up on what happened last week on NWA POWERRR.  Rush and Rolando Freeman held tryouts to see who would be the third Spectacular since sending Brady Pierce packing at Samhain.  With the help of NWA Owner William Patrick Corgan, the finalists narrowed down to Paul Burchill and Tyler Midas.  Burchill was confused but was down to rock a bowtie.  Midas brown-nosed with Rolando to curry favor.

So who’s the new Spectacular?

The Southern Six get ready to face The New Spectaculars 1.0 (From left: Rush Freeman, Rolando, and Tyler Midas)

Yes, Virginia.  Midas is the new Spectacular to join the squad.  On the plus side, he can rock a bow tie.  As for The Spectaculars’ chances, I’ll be kind to this 1.0 team and call this a “beta release” where the bugs haven’t been worked out of the system.

I should treat this match with some respect, but in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’ll treat you to this Leftover Turkey Stuffed Squash recipe because I don’t recap squash matches.  But let’s get to the end, which is exactly what you think would happen:  Morton connects with the Kiss It Goodbye knee lift to send Rolando out of the ring and Mason sends Rush on a Thrillride.  Midas gets finished off as Mason and Taylor deliver a big boot/TKO and cover for the one, two, and three.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  The Southern Six

The Southern Six are triumphant the show goes to the credits.

NWA Powerrr - 11/21/2023
2.5

Final Thoughts:

To quote Futurama, I give this review of POWERRR:  “Overall I would give this a ‘C’:  Okay, not great.”  I think the Main Event is what brought down this show in my eyes.  Had this opened up Powerrr and the Tuckey Gobbler match with CJ/Stevens swapped places, this could have been better.  But alas, I am not paid to be an armchair booker.

Also, visiting your family for Thanksgiving probably looks a hundred times better in comparison to The Spectaculars, eh?

Well until the Tryptophan wears off, we’ll see ya in seven!
