NWA Powerrr: Opening round antics heading to The Crockett Cup

There is more opening round action on this NWA Powerrr, as more tag teams want to get to the next level of the Crockett Cup. We’ll see Big Strong Mims and Da Pope put aside their differences to take on The Slimeballz, plus Trevor Murdoch pairs up with Tyler Franks to see if they can succeed against The Country Gentlemen. And the last match will have the unique pairing of Thom Latimer and El DragΓ³n Nihan look to take down the family of Carson and Lockjaw Drake, but will Aron Stevens‘ Federation of Champions (and The Slimeballz) throw a monkey wrench in the works?

There is a lot going on before the National Wrestling Alliance heads to Forney, TX.

We come to you from the PowerrrStation in Tampa, FL. Joe Galli, Danny Dealz, and Tim Storm have the call, and The Country Gentlemen make their way to the ring. Fans show the “Colonel’s Chicken” signs to the chagrin of Papa Joe. He has no truck with Murdoch, but he does have a problem with Franks, and he’s tired of the fans. Before he can go on, the music cuts him off, signaling the start of the First Match.

Thom Latimer and El Nihan DragΓ³n aren’t sweating the Drakes and are confident they’ll pass them to get closer to the Cup this evening.

Meanwhile, Dr. Vick is at home in his Abode, still nursing his heartache after being rejected by Tiffany Nieves. In comes Ms. Starr and Gretta, and they were “worried” about him. Starr suggests listening to her, and the Doc is open to new ideas after he swigs a gulp of champagne.

Crockett Cup Opening Round Match: The Country Gentlemen (AJ & KC Cazana, with Joe Cazana)(No. 6 Seed) vs. Trevor Murdoch and Tyler Franks (with Mike Knox)(No. 11 Seed)

Before we get into this, allow me an…

(Author’s Note: Look, I think we know how this is gonna end, especially after my exclusive interview last week. But let’s go along on the journey to see how we got there.)

KC and Murdoch start, and the former NWA champion takes the younger Cazana to the woodshed.

A tag to Franks and the upstart tries to put the screw to KC, but he reverses with a single leg takedown and punches his head. Then White Lightning struts his stuff for a leg drop. A Tag to AJ and the Bullhead Brute drops the elbow, and Franks is seriously in Peril Against The Country Gentlemen.

AJ attempts a Vader Bomb but belly flops in the middle of the ring. A hot tag to Murdoch, and he is Captain Badass en Fuego. Things look good as he climbs up the top turnbuckle for the Flying Bulldog, but Franks foolishly tags himself in. Murdoch is confused by this play, as the Gentlemen lay Franks out with the Country Breakfast finisher (legsweep/forearm), and that was all she wrote.

After the Match, Murdoch and Knox are beside themselves at the first-round loss.

The Southern Six are firing on all thrusters, and Alex Taylor and Kerry Morton are ready to win the Cup. As for the NWA Heavyweight champ, “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason, he’s beaten everyone from Latimer to Matt Cardona to Bryan Idol, and no one can step up to Big Daddy Thrill. ‘Cause when yer hot, yet Hot. And when yer not…well…

The Country Gentlemen are backstage after their win, and Papa Joe promises they will win the Cup, just to spite Billy Corgan and his lawsuit against them, and they will do it By The Book

Crockett Cup Opening Round Match: Big Strong Mims and Da Pope (No. 7 Seed) vs. The Slimeballz (Sage Chantz and Tommy Rant)(No. 10 Seed)

As the Slimeballz make their entrance, Pope and Mims look at them with disdain and then commence a beatdown before the bell rings.

Chantz manages to counter their blindside attack, and goes for a huracanrana, but Pope drops him with a powerbomb. A tag to Mims, and between him and Pope, Chantz is a Slimeball in Peril. Pope nails him with a spinebuster, and Mims follows with a splash to cover, but Rant distracts the ref from making the count.

Chantz tries to make his way over, and Mims grabs him by the footy. He connects with a step up enzugiri, and Chantz gets the hot tag to Rant, and it’s En Fuego in Slimeball City.

The match goes to Pier Four, and Mims slams Rant to the center of the ring. Before they can utilize a finisher, Chantz knocks Pope off the top turnbuckle, and he and Rant reposition for The Snot Rocket as they upset Mims and Pope in the Opening Round.

After the match, Mims is heated, but Pope holds him back, and he gives a look like he has something in mind for The Slimeballz

Backstage, Murdoch and Knox state emphatically that he’s never been more embarrassed in his life… for Franks. They read him the riot act, as Murdoch exclaims they have never been knocked out of the Cup in the opening round, and he screwed up their chances. Franks feels bad and wants to make it up to them, but Knox and Murdoch need to think about it.

Now for your next match between…

J.A.C. vs. Richard Adonis

Looks like Jesse Alexander Carter is going solo, after he and Wrecking Ball Legursky lost the opening round of The Crockett Cup. As for Adonis, the β€œSilver Snake” makes his debut, and this guy has been trained under folks like Pete Dunne, as well as James Drake and Zack Gibson of the Grizzled Young Veterans.

J.A.C. takes it to Adonis with a suplex and then rushes at him. But the newcomer gives him a rope-assisted stomp to the head and follows with a moonsault for a two count.

He gives a disrespectful kick to the back of J.A.C. , and he displays the joint manipulation made famous by The Bruiserweight.

Adonis is tightening the screws to his opponent and lands a fisherman’s driver for another near fall. He goes to the well once too often for another moonsault that doesn’t find the mark this time. J.A.C. comes back and nails a belly to back suplex, then runs through Adonis with a clothesline. The straps come down, but Adonis tries to spoil it with a diving corkscrew stunner that would make Athena proud, but J.A.C. kicks out.

He finally puts away Adonis with a jackhammer for the pin and the win.

The Southern Six are at the El Encanto Tattoo parlor. Mason has an idea of what he wants, and Nieves suggests something that says “Perro.” AJ Cazana and the Gentlemen are still there getting that tat finished on his arm, and they’ll take as long as they want.

Bryan Idol is upset that Carnage cost him his shot at the title. He already got another shot after talking to Billy Corgan, but he needs to take care of Carnage next week in a No Limits match because Looks Kill, and so does he.

Crockett Cup Opening Round Match: Carson and Lockjaw Drake(withAron Stevens)(No. 8 Seed) vs. Thom Latimer and El DragΓ³n Nihan (No. 9 Seed)

So Lockjaw was announced, but Stevens pulls a little switcherooo. Despite what the graphic says, it will be “The Wall” Tyler Stevens that takes his place. The reason for this is that Lockjaw still is not medically cleared after damaging his ACL, according to Galli. Plus, all members of The Federation of Champions (and the Slimeballz) are out in force with the numbers against Latimer and DragΓ³n.

Drake makes fun of Latimer’s new haircut, but he soon realizes he’s still championship caliber as he chops him outside the ring to the Federation.

A tag to Stevens, and Latimer calls on El DragΓ³n. Both men stare each other down, and each tries to lay on the goozle, but DragΓ³n overpowers him, and this becomes a hoss fight that sees Stevens getting the worst of it. He finally pounds down El DragΓ³n, and Drake tags back in and gives a chop. He decides this is a good time to dance around and shuffles to the displeasure of the Tampa crowd, but then meets a hard chop by DragΓ³n.

From there it’s…

Ads (where Ms. Starr suggests to Dr. Vik that he needs to be a pro wrestler to win Tiffany Nieves’ heart. Elsewhere, Mims and Pope are still smarting over their loss to The Slimeballz, but Pope has a light that will shine through, as two men in white face coverings step into the picture.)

We come back as Latimer is making short work of Drake, who’s on dream street. He gets crotched on the top rope, and he goes on a ride courtesy of DragΓ³n and Latimer.

He goes after him, and Drake sends him outside as The Federation of Championslay in the boots and proceeds to stomp him down. He gets tossed back in, and Drake nails with a string dance to a fist drop. He drapes Latimer on the middle ropes when the Slimeballz try to interfere. This time, the ref catches them red-handed (err… slime-handed) in the act and ejects them and The Federation from ringside. Latimer gets the hot tag to DragΓ³n, and he gives El Fuego Que Todo Consumes Stevens and Drake. The end comes as he and Latimer deliver a spike Tombstone Piledriver and cover Stevens for the one, two, and three.
