The Spring BreakThru edition of AEW Dynamite delivered one of the most memorable nights in recent AEW history, as Darby Allin captured the AEW World Championship in front of his home-state crowd in Everett, Washington.
With multiple title matches, heated promos and storyline developments throughout the night, the show built steadily toward a dramatic main event that saw the company crown a new top champion.
The night began with chaos as MJF arrived late to the arena, immediately confronted by Renee Paquette, who revealed AEW officials had been trying to contact him all day. Before she could explain the situation, MJF repeatedly cut her off, only to learn that his scheduled challenger had changed following Darby Allin’s earlier victory over Andrade El Idolo.
When Allin entered the ring, MJF refused to compete, claiming the match had been unfairly scheduled and threatening legal action against AEW, Tony Khan, the broadcast partners and even the audience. He then attempted to exit, citing a back injury.
MJF tried to talk down to Allin, praising his resilience but insisting he was not ready to be champion. That drew a fired-up response from Allin, who cut a passionate promo about his journey, referencing his training roots nearby and his dedication to AEW.
“If I’m not ready now, I’ll never be ready,” Allin declared, demanding the match start immediately.
Bryan Danielson then appeared with a ruling from Tony Khan, agreeing that MJF should not wrestle unprepared but moving the match to the main event. He made it clear that if MJF refused to compete later, he would be stripped of the championship.
Allin added one final note, promising to defeat MJF with a headlock takeover.
Tommaso Ciampa vs. Dezmond Xavier
Tommaso Ciampa faced Dezmond Xavier in the opening contest and delivered a dominant performance.
Ciampa immediately took control, overwhelming Xavier with strikes and punishing him both inside and outside the ring. Xavier mounted a comeback with high-impact offence, including a poisonrana and frog splash, but Ciampa absorbed the punishment and responded with a decisive running knee strike.
Winner: Tommaso Ciampa
After the match, Ciampa sent a clear message to the locker room, stating he is done waiting for opportunities and wants a shot at the AEW World Championship. He reinforced that message with another running knee to Xavier.
FTR, accompanied by Stokely, addressed the crowd in a confident and confrontational segment.
Dax Harwood acknowledged fan criticism before doubling down, insisting that as long as FTR are champions, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage will never get another shot at the titles.
Stokely compared FTR to Goliath, claiming no team in AEW could defeat them, while Cash Wheeler mockingly called for a moment of silence for their fallen challengers, drawing heavy boos from the crowd.
AEW TNT Title Match: Kevin Knight (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli
The AEW TNT Championship was on the line as Kevin Knight defended against Claudio Castagnoli.
The match was a fast-paced and physical battle, with Claudio using his strength advantage to dominate stretches of the contest, including a Giant Swing and multiple uppercuts.
Knight countered with speed and agility, delivering a Phenomenal Forearm and several high-impact strikes. After a back-and-forth exchange, Knight hit a UFO Splash to secure the victory.
Winner: Kevin Knight
After the match, Knight praised Claudio and reflected on his recent losses in the Trios division, while teasing ambitions of becoming a double champion.
Chris Jericho addressed his AEW return, but was interrupted by Ricochet and The Demand.
Ricochet mocked Jericho’s recent loss and suggested he retire, leading to a brief fight. Jericho initially gained control, but Gates of Agony quickly turned the tide, attacking him in the corner.
The segment ended with Ricochet standing tall after a RicoSault, further establishing his dominance.
Will Ospreay vs. Hechicero
Will Ospreay took on Hechicero in a technical showcase.
Hechicero focused on submissions, targeting Ospreay’s arm and neck, while Ospreay countered with high-flying offence and strikes. The match featured numerous counters and near falls, with both men pushing each other to the limit.
Ospreay ultimately secured the win with a Hidden Blade.
Winner: Will Ospreay
After the match, Ospreay was attacked by Mark Davis following a distraction from Don Callis and Lance Archer, continuing the ongoing storyline.
Backstage, Thekla interrupted an interview to boast about her dominance, only to be confronted by Alex Windsor.
The exchange escalated quickly, with Windsor challenging her to a match and accusing her of running from competition. Thekla declined for the moment, setting up a future clash.
AEW TBS Title Match: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Kamille
Willow Nightingale defended the AEW TBS Championship against Kamille in a hard-hitting contest.
Kamille targeted Nightingale’s arm throughout, controlling much of the match with power offence and submissions. Nightingale rallied with a pounce and cannonball before countering Kamille into a pinning combination to retain the title.
Winner: Willow Nightingale
AEW World Title Match: MJF (c) vs. Darby Allin
The main event saw MJF finally defend the AEW World Championship against Darby Allin.
Before the match, Sting made a surprise appearance and shared a brief moment with Allin, telling him it was his time.
Once the match began, MJF attempted to stall, even handing over his ring before immediately delivering a low blow. Allin quickly responded, unleashing a series of Coffin Drops.
Allin hit four Coffin Drops in succession before applying a headlock takeover, mirroring the move MJF used to defeat him in 2021.
This time, however, it was Allin who secured the pinfall.
Winner: Darby Allin – NEW AEW World Champion
The arena erupted as the AEW locker room flooded the ring to celebrate. Confetti rained down as Sting joined Allin, sharing the emotional moment. Allin knelt with the championship as Dynamite went off the air, closing the show with one of the most significant title changes in AEW history.
