With just a week left for ALL IN, AEW strolls into the Chesapeake Arena in Baltimore, Maryland for this week’s Dynamite, and it’s a big one. Both the champions and challengers of the respective World Championship matches sit down with Renee Paquette, the Continental Cup continues with the Quarter Finals, and Maya World defends her TBS Championship against three other women. All this and much more comes your way.
We kick off with Trios action as Ospreay and his United Empire mates take on Don Callis Family.
Will Ospreay, HENARE and Francesco Akira vs. Don Callis Family (Cage, Archer, Rocky)
Ospreay started things off with Cage tagged out to Akira, who then tagged in HENARE. For a while it was a great showcase by the two men and had some well-done tag maneuvers with Will. DCF got control when Akira was in the ring with the much larger Archer. In the end, Rocky Romero would fall to a Hidden Blade by Will Ospreay and that would be it. Ospreay and his partners celebrate with the fans post-match.
Winners – Ospreay, HENARE, Akira
Backstage, we are with Okada. He talks about the importance of family, unlike Takeshita, who was too selfish, which is why they kicked him out. After this, we head to the ring with Tony Schiavone, who introduces the current International Champion, Kyle Fletcher. In response to what Okada said, he says that we’re in the midst of the greatest International title run and there’s no reason to think it will end soon. But he does agree with the point about the title staying in the family.
He is interrupted by the returning Takeshita. The two men go at it, and the former champ stood tall holding the title. Commentary mentions the absence of Okada during all of this, which is strange but also makes sense.
We move on to the sit-down interview by Renee Paquette with World Champion Kenny Omega and his challenger, Will Ospreay.
Both men talk about their shared history, especially New Japan Pro Wrestling. Talk of COVID times, when they were in Japan and America respectively. It soon pivots to their matches at Forbidden Door from three years ago. Kenny says the match at ALL IN isn’t a rubber match but rather an attempt for Will to prove that he’s on his level. Switching to Will, he talks about becoming the first Englishman to win the world title on home soil, and doing so without the help of Don Callis or the Death Riders. Some not-so-nice comments from Kenny about his son had Will going at him but he was held back.
Maya World vs. Persephone vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Kris Statlander – TBS Championship
Persephone and Maya fight to the outside as Shida and Statlander go at it. Persephone gains the advantage, sending Maya down with a headscissors. All four women exchange blows and give their best moves to win the championship. Shida hits a Falcon Arrow but it is broken up by Persephone. Eventually, it was just the champion and Statlander. Statlander was looking for Wednesday Night Fever, but Maya countered it with a pin and held down for the three count.
Winner (And Still) – Maya World
We hear from the challengers of the Women’s Tag Team Championship at ALL IN, the Brawling Birds. They mention looking forward to beating the champions at Wembley and having the apt celebration to go with it afterward.
Jon Moxley vs. Jay White – Continental Cup Quarter Finals
Both men get dueling chants in the opening moments, and we see why as both were countering each other’s attempts to take control early on. These men have history, as it was Mox and the Death Riders whose attack led to Jay missing more than a year of action. Mox keeps looking for the Bulldog Choke but was unable to properly clinch it in. A Death Rider looked to have done the job, but Jay kicked out, prompting a huge response from the crowd. One more attempt would do the trick as Mox had the Switchblade down on the mat for the three count. Incredible match. I would even say this should’ve been the match at ALL IN.
Winner – Jon Moxley
Post-match, it was nothing but chaos as the Dogs, now with a returning Gabe Kidd, the Conglomeration, the Trios champions Brodido and Hangman, the Demand and Swirl all make an appearance. Hangman throws the challenge for Wembley as anyone who wants a shot at their title can get it at Wembley Stadium at ALL IN.
Backstage, we were with TBS Champion Maya World before she was interrupted by the Women’s World Champion, Willow Nightingale. Willow remembered a promise she gave to Maya last month and offered Maya a title shot this Saturday on Collision, which she graciously accepted.
At ringside, MJF’s “personal Spanish translator” Jonathan Cruz has a statement from the “One True Champion” as he runs down Andrade. Cruz now says in English how he is a real Latino man compared to El Idolo. He starts to leave the ring when Andrade comes out and we have a match apparently.
Andrade El Idolo vs. Jon Cruz
Andrade squashed him with a Día de los Muertos and a DM for the win.
Winner – Andrade El Idolo
Andrade grabs a mic after the match, running down MJF in Spanish before calling him out. MJF appears on the screen, berates Baltimore and says that Andrade isn’t on his level, then just leaves. Andrade then promises to take down MJF and, of course, a “How you know?” to end things.
Backstage with Renee Paquette as she sits down with Willow Nightingale and her challenger for ALL IN, Mercedes Mone. There wasn’t a lot of “interview” as both women started going at it, which eventually reached the ring, and both of them had to be separated by security.
We see Swerve backstage and he responds to Hangman’s challenge by saying, “Be careful what you wish for.” Nana signs off by asking the crowd, “Who’s House?”
Nigel McGuinness vs. Hechicero – Continental Cup Quarter Final
Nigel’s leg, more specifically his ankle, isn’t at 100%, and Hechicero immediately focuses on that. Nigel’s temporary solution to that was going after his opponent’s mask. There were a lot of strikes being exchanged and submissions being traded. As the match wound down, Nigel trapped Hechicero with a Guillotine. He tried hard to get out of it but eventually faded. One can only dream of the type of match they would have had if Nigel were younger.
Winner – Nigel McGuinness
A promo package played hyping up the TNT Championship match between Darby Allin and Kevin Knight at ALL IN.
We head to ringside as Tony Schiavone introduces the TNT Champion himself. Kevin Knight tells Tony to leave as he addresses Darby Allin. Darby wasn’t far behind as he was coming out but was blindsided by a pyro malfunction. Kevin took advantage, brought Darby to the ring and hit a Coast to Coast with a chair propped up. After the break, we see Darby being taken to an ambulance.
Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks vs. Don Callis Family (El Clon, Davis and Doyle)
We start off with Clon and Nick, who gets the upper hand before tagging in Matt. They fend off an approaching Doyle and Davis. Along with Kenny, they triple-team Clon. Clon catching Matt with a knee strike led to the DCF taking full control of the match. This wouldn’t last long, however, and in the end, following a Superkick Party, Omega finishes things off with a V-Trigger and a One Winged Angel on Doyle for the victory.
Winner – Kenny Omega and Young Bucks
The rest of the family immediately go for a sneak attack. Cope and eventually Cage come down for the save. Just like at Arena Mexico, an accidental collision with each other by Bucks and C&C led to DCF coming back. They keep brawling up the ramp and eventually backstage.
Ospreay comes out with a mic, still furious about Kenny bringing up his kid. Kenny says he only has one thing to say … “security.” Guards come out to escort Ospreay out, but Kenny keeps going with the jibes. This leads to Ospreay charging down the ring. This ends with the champion having the last laugh as he puts Ospreay through a table to close out the show.
