A WWE Hall of Famer is reportedly set to appear at TNA Slammiversary amid ongoing speculation that they are a top candidate to replace Tommy Dreamer as head of the company’s creative team.
Brian “Road Dogg” James could be headed back to TNA Wrestling in a significant backstage role. According to PWInsider, the WWE Hall of Famer is expected to attend TNA Slammiversary this weekend, despite the company reportedly hoping to keep his involvement under wraps until after the pay-per-view.
The report comes less than two weeks after Tommy Dreamer announced his departure as TNA’s Head of Creative, creating a major behind-the-scenes vacancy.
While Hunter Johnston, better known as Delirious, and TNA Vice President of Television Production Eric Tompkins remain key members of the creative team, the promotion is still believed to be searching for someone to oversee the department.
PWInsider reported that Road Dogg was originally considered for a producer role within the company. However, those plans reportedly changed following Dreamer’s exit, potentially opening the door for a more prominent position.
One source indicated that Road Dogg’s arrival could further strengthen TNA’s working relationship with WWE NXT. The former WWE writer is said to be close with NXT head writer Johnny Russo, which could prove beneficial as the partnership between the two promotions continues to grow.
Road Dogg’s Various Former Executive Positions In WWE Make Him A Good Candidate To Lead TNA’s Creative Team
Road Dogg brings extensive experience from his previous tenure with WWE. Before leaving the company in March, he served in several high-profile backstage roles, including NXT coach, producer, Senior Vice President of Live Events, and both lead and co-lead writer for SmackDown.
At the time of his departure, James cited a desire to spend more time with his family and said the job’s pace had become too demanding.
A move to TNA would not be unfamiliar territory for the WWE Hall of Famer. James previously worked for the promotion between 2002 and 2009.
The potential addition comes during a period of significant change for TNA. In recent months, the company has seen several departures both on-screen and behind the scenes, including Dreamer’s exit and Sami Callihan’s release from his production and agent roles after nearly a decade with the promotion.
