WWE and AAA are reportedly facing a major issue which is delaying the Mexican promotion’s expansion into the United States.
Questions continue to surround the future of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s expansion into the United States, while speculation regarding Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo’s status with WWE has also intensified in recent days. AAA talent have appeared more frequently across WWE programming in recent months as the partnership between the two companies continues to grow. Despite that increased crossover, AAA has yet to officially announce any upcoming live events in the United States.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, visa complications are currently the main issue delaying those plans.
“Still major visa issues going on, which is why AAA hasn’t announced any US dates yet,” Alvarez wrote. “And also why they haven’t announced where the September 11 show is going to be.”
WWE recently confirmed that this year’s Triplemania will expand into a two-night format for the first time in the event’s history. The first show is currently scheduled for September 11, with the second event taking place September 13 in Mexico City. The situation has also led to increased speculation surrounding WWE’s Hispanic talent roster following Los Garza’s quick loss to Oba Femi on Raw earlier this week.
Hispanic WWE Talent Likely To Be Safe Amid Ongoing Roster Cuts As AAA Looks To Expand
After the match, Angel Garza posted a cryptic message on social media thanking fans for supporting the “Garza Legacy”, leading some fans to speculate that he and Humberto Carrillo could potentially be leaving WWE amid the company’s ongoing roster changes. However, Alvarez reported that internal expectations currently suggest the opposite.
“Also, the feeling is Angel and Berto aren’t going anywhere,” Alvarez wrote. “And with AAA looking for a US TV deal, most likely a lot of the Hispanic talent are probably safe for the moment.”
With AAA reportedly still interested in securing American television distribution, talent connected to the Hispanic wrestling audience could become increasingly important as WWE and AAA continue strengthening their working relationship.
