John Cena has continued teasing a major announcement for WWE Backlash, claiming the news will “shock the very foundation of WWE.”
John Cena officially confirmed earlier this week that he would appear at Saturday’s premium live event in Tampa, Florida, after previously teasing “history-making” news connected to the show. On Thursday, Cena posted a video to social media from outside the Benchmark International Arena, promising the announcement would impact every level of WWE.
“In just a few days, I have a major announcement inside this building that is gonna shock the very foundation of WWE, from its fans to its superstars, from its champions down to its rookies,” Cena said.
Cena also thanked Tampa for hosting the event before encouraging fans to tune in to Backlash on ESPN in the United States and on Netflix internationally.
Why Will John Cena Be At WWE Backlash?
According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the current expectation internally is that John Cena’s announcement could be tied to the upcoming launch of Club WWE, with Cena reportedly being positioned as the face of the project.
Cena first hinted at having “something epic” planned for Backlash in a social media post on April 23, despite WWE not officially announcing his involvement in the show at that stage. Benchmark International Arena later advertised Cena for the event on May 3, before Cena personally confirmed his appearance the following day. The 17-time world champion has remained involved with WWE following his role as host of WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
