Recent speculation linking CM Punk to a WWE departure and a return to AEW has been dismissed by veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the rumours that have circulated in recent weeks following CM Punk’s absence from WWE television and said there is currently no indication that the former World Heavyweight Champion is planning to leave the company.
“Look, he’s not leaving, and he’s not going back,” Meltzer said. “I don’t want to say never because you never say never. It’s not happening now.”
Punk has not appeared on WWE programming since the Raw after WrestleMania 42, leading to widespread online speculation about his status. However, multiple reports have suggested that his absence is related to creative plans rather than any backstage dispute.
According to Meltzer, much of the recent discussion about a potential AEW return has been driven more by online engagement than by credible reporting. He argued that CM Punk remains one of wrestling’s biggest stars and someone who continues to generate significant interest whenever he appears.
“He’s a money player, and it can’t be denied,” Meltzer said. “That’s what got him back was that he’s a money player and he draws money, and that’s why he’ll be back.”
Dave Meltzer Believes A CM Punk Return To AEW Could Still Happen
Dave Meltzer also pointed to wrestling history as a reminder that situations can always change over time. While he stressed that a return to AEW for CM Punk is not currently on the table, he noted that business has often repaired seemingly broken relationships. He cited Steve Austin and Bruiser Brody as examples of performers who eventually reconciled with their promotions despite prior disputes.
“No bridge is burned forever,” Meltzer said.
The veteran journalist added that while there may be individuals within WWE who do not get along with Punk personally, that does not necessarily affect business decisions. According to Meltzer, disagreements are common in any workplace, but companies ultimately focus on what is best for business.
