You know what pisses me off besides getting those awful Molasses Kisses for Halloween? Someone on social media or some outlet suggesting a movie and then not telling you where you can watch it making you do all of the detective work yourself. Sure, some movies do skip around services from month to month but most remain where they are. If you are thinking of mashing three of the best things ever — Halloween, horror and pro wrestling — we have not only some suggestions but where you can watch them as of … 30 seconds ago.

There is an infamous scenes in Plan 9 From Outer Space in which a policeman while questioning a subject has his gun drawn and is absentmindedly pointing it at everyone and everything. I believe he even scratches his head with said gun. There is a scene in 2018’s Parts Unknown where a booker breaks up a locker room fight with a gun brandishing it around like a sword. Parts Unknown is battle royale of bad or incompetent acting except for William DeCoff as maniacal wrestler Hermann Von Strasser who sells his soul for power and glory. Along with the bad action there is some cruddy editing and too many lingering scenes on inanimate object. What Parts Unknown has going for it though is an accurate portrayal of pro wrestling such as the language, the banter and the references. You can tell that writer/director Richard Chandler either did his homework or is a hardcore wrestling fan. Chandler has moved onto directing other films and has had small roles on recent TV shows like Castle Rock and Evil Lives here so he hasn’t done too badly for himself.

Parts Unknown should have kept things simple

Enter ... Zombie King! movie

This film is an Jekyll and Hyde act. It is known as Enter… Zombie King, Zombie King: Legion of Doom and even Zombie Beach Party. Not only does whatever you want to call this 2003 movie have a great surf soundtrack, trippy over-the-top narration by our hero Ulysses, comic book art that’s a tribute to Jack Kirby but on top of all of that flesh-eating zombies crammed in a U-Haul trailer. A low budget film that was obviously a labor of lucha love for everyone involved and looks and plays out far better than the dime-store budget they had to work with. What’s up with filming on the beach in the middle of the winter though?

Enter… Zombie King full of gory goodness

Masked Mutilator movie

Masked Mutilator is a bigger mess than what you will find under any wrestling ring. It is known for two things and two things only. One is a young Glenn Hetrick, one of the judges of the defunct Face Off reality show stars as “Rocker” in it. Hetrick also handled the special effects and they aren’t too shabby for what he has to work with. Also, writer, director and star Brick Bronsky was a wrestler who trained at Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling and appeared in the NWA and briefly in the NWA. He left wrestling and starred in a handful of Troma Entertainment films. He also produced and co-produced a number of films. He passed away in 2021 of COVID-19 complications. Masked Mutilator is far from his best work. It is a real chore to sit through mostly because it is so amateurish. However, while the budget may not have been big Bronsky’s love of wrestling and horror certainly was.

Powerbomb movie

Powerbomb, which came out in 2020, is Stephen King’s Misery for pro wrestling fans. A movie made by fans for fans. This was an Indiegogo crowdfunded project, surprisingly enough. The actual matches are quite decent and the level of skill all around is of a higher level. Josh Miller and Matt Capiccioni (wrestler Matt Cross) come off as authentic as do most of the cast. Adam Cole makes a guest appearance and Britt Baker stars as Kelsi Roxx. Baker is genuine in her role. She really transitions well from small screen to big screen.

Indy film ‘Powerbomb’ not quite a bomb

Monster Brawl movie

If you are a horror movie fan (especially of the Universal Monsters) and wrestling (that’s why you are here!) then you will get a kick out of this 2011 film. Monster Brawl is a full-fledged wrestling card pitting the greatest monsters against each other to determine a champion. The film has more stars than CM Punk and Macho Man combined. Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall, News Radio, Hot In Cleveland) and veteran Canadian actor Art Hindle (Beast Within, E.N.G., Porky’s) call the action as our commentators and Jimmy “Mouth of the South” Hart is our ring announcer, along with two hot babes. Horror great Lance Henriksen is our narrator while Robert Maillet (Kurrgan) is Frankenstein, Kevin Nash is Zombie Man’s manager Colonel Crookshanks, TNA’s Rosemary is the Witch Bitch, RJ City is The Mummy and The Werewolf and wrestler Kelly Couture is Lady Vampire. What is really cool is that we are introduced to our combatants with origin story segments before each match. Speaking of matches, they are pretty decent themselves as well, although these are legendary monsters so the rule book is often not just thrown out the window, it is burned in Freddy’s furnace at times. This is the perfect Halloween film for any wrestling fan.
