WWE announced on Friday that Shad Gaspard, who died in May 2020, trying to save his 10-year-old son from drowning in Venice Beach, California, would be receiving the company’s Warrior Award at the upcoming WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Gaspard was 39 years old.

FOX Sports broke the news of the honor.

Gaspard will be the fifth recipient of the Warrior Award, following Titus O’Neil, Eric LeGrand, Joan Lunden, and Connor Michalek.

The award is named after Jim Hellwig, who wrestled as The Ultimate Warrior.

Gaspard had a good run in WWE as a part of the Cryme Tyme tag team with partner JTG (Jayson Anthony Paul), who is currently wrestling with the National Wrestling Alliance, in a tag team with Dirty Dango (formerly known as Fandango).

The ceremony will take place on April 1, 2022, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
