New season, new faces, same ole madness with MLW’s return to the spotlight.
Priscilla Kelly vs. Shotzi Blackheart
Kelly has been pissed off that eyes weren’t on her, but instead on Shotzi. She wants the attention, so naturally, battling Blackheart feeds her desire. Shotzi didn’t shy away from this bout since her reasons are different. Simply to keep her winning record.
Shoko Nakajima has been very impressive these past couple of months and wanting a title match against her wouldn’t surprise anyone. Priscilla rolled through a crossbody and slammed Shotzi’s chest with double boots. Kelly’s showboating allowed Blackheart to perform a successful suicide dive.
As a countermove, Kelly took down Blackheart right on the apron. A crucifix pin almost nailed Priscilla, but she returned fire with a running knee strike. Shotzi baited her opponent. So many near falls with a unique Senton delivery by Shotzi. She earned the first win of the night with an unorthodox Senton in the end. She continues her streak.
Winner: Shotzi Blackheart
During a press conference, Killer Kross, the winner of Battle Riot VIII and new World Heavyweight Champion, had issued an open challenge to all those confident enough to face him. But he warns everyone that he will suplex them into oblivion and leave them where he found them. His wife and the Seductress of Sin, Scarlett Bordeaux will be in action next.
Elsewhere, Alex Hammerstone heard about the open contact, so he ventured to sign it, but he’s later told that someone already beat him to it. Oof…
Aleah James vs. Scarlett Bordeaux
An aggressive tie-up at the start truly got the blood pumping, yet James gained the upper hand with a drop kick. Bordeaux countered with a DDT out of nowhere. James tried to send Scarlett wobbling, however, she got laid out with a powerbomb.
Most of the match had been moving in favour of Bordeaux, luckily, that doesn’t undermine Aleah’s talents. She was great to see! As a final staple to her streak, Bordeaux initiated the Scarlett Letter. Despite the loss, Bordeaux respected James’ efforts.
Winner: Scarlett Bordeaux
Previously, Mads Krugger’s primary mission was to be a mercenary at the behest of a mysterious individual named The Serpent. Since Krugger decided to focus on becoming the World Heavyweight Champion, a reestablished version of CONTRA Unit took him out of Battle Riot, resulting in the crowning of Killer Kross. The last time we saw him, he was being carried out in a body bag. And speaking of next time, Shoko Nakajima accepted Shotzi’s challenge.
Trevor Lee vs. Austin Aries
According to commentary, Aries loves to play mind games, assuming that’s what he doing on Lee’s back, looking like a human propeller. Ha! Trevor retaliated with some human propelling as well following a body takedown.
Austin boxed Trevor’s ears before initiating side-headlock maneuvering. I’m not sure what’s happening, but Lee had been mirroring Austin’s movements, which was unimpressive. A striking kick to Aries’ chest stunned the man.
Austin caught a punt-kick and tripped Trevor onto the apron. His violent nature was abrupt as Lee received the grunt of it. That reverse DDT using the middle rope dented Lee in a concerning way. He kept applying pressure to his wounded stomach since that’s where most of the pain resided.
Trevor was asking for reprieve ever since that high impact move on the back of his neck, yet he remains in the match. Tom Lawlor applauded Aries’ unique take on the abdominal stretch that caused Trevor to reach for something. Mainly something metaphorical. At some point, Lee exploded with a lariat and a German suplex.
That Shining Wizard from Lee almost pinned Aries, regrettably, Austin kicked out. Aries locked in the Last Chance submission, fortunately, Lee put his foot on the bottom rope. Foolishly, Austin thought he won only to see he didn’t. Trevor was looking for the Cave-in, Aries dodged and drove his opponent down onto the apron. An IED kick and a brainbuster awarded Austin the victory.
Winner: Austin Aries
For over 20 minutes, we’ve been anticipating who signed the open contract and the signatures on that piece of paper look like a controlled mess. I couldn’t tell who it was until the camera zoomed out and revealed it to be Matt Riddle… with purple hair. Honestly, that’s a much better fit for him compared to that pink disaster he had on his head.
That clapping man when the Skyscrapers came out looked the same kind of confusion that I was experiencing. Nonetheless, Dyer and Dijak joined the commentary table. They came early to keep an eye on a team they’ve been having beef with; the Good Brothers, in a match against debuting wrestlers, Joe and Mark Coffey from Scotland. The Champions didn’t seem impressed…
Joe and Anderson started the fight off. Clearly, the Good Brothers were on a roll since Joe had to deal with both men yet to tag Mark in. And I spoke too soon given Joe managed to fight Paul a second time to bring Mark into the ring. The mood had changed once Doc and Mark were brawling, yet that didn’t last as Joe came back in. I feel like the Magic Killer was sudden, nevertheless, Anderson and Gallows won.
I found my perplexed face to be hilarious. The Skyscrapers being out here to break into a brawl with the Good Brothers was an eventuality, but I did hope they knew better. I see egotism is far stronger than necessary.
Throughout the evening, CONTRA Unit’s logo has been glitching the screens. Mads Krugger now sleeps in the black lagoon he came from.
Diego Hill’s speed, acrobatics, precision was a delight to witness again, however, that one punch from Adam Brooks stunned him dry. I haven’t watched One Punch Man yet, but it reminded me of that anime. Brooks’ ruggedness was actually incising to see. His look gave me ex-communicated military man gone rogue by travelling the woods on a strategic revenge mission. Navy, to be precise.
Oops, I’m losing focus (that’s if you weren’t enjoying that). Ha! Hill created some separation with an amazing side kick to the face of Adam, which whiplashed the man to hell. That dive bomb Cutter from Diego came inches from winning, but it surprised everyone that it wasn’t enough. It took a little bit for them to calm down. I’m sure that spinning corkscrew was meant to ensure a triumph, yet it didn’t land the way it should and he won anyway. Hm?
Carolina Cruz vs. Zamaya
The bell hasn’t even rang and Zamaya delivered a gut-wrenching spear towards Carolina that affected her more than usual. Cruz was still removing her jacket when it happened. Carolina was suffering at the hands of cruelty in color. Zamaya removed the protective padding around the ring to slam Cruz on the concrete floor. Cruz made it back before the ten count but lost to the Killer Bomb. Quite the debut.
Winner: Zamaya
After his little tiff with the Good Brothers earlier, commentary wondered if Bishop Dyer was at 100% for this match versus Alex Hammerstone. Maybe not at first, but he does hold his own the best he can when you have a man like Hammerstone on the opposite side of the ring. One could say they’ve rarely seen Alex on his knees. His challenges are usually the ones kneeling.
Hammerstone scaled to the top and delivered a massive drop kick. Annoyingly so, Dijak stomped out here with a chair, fortunately, the Good Brothers took out the garbage. That distracted Dyer as he fell victim to a powerbomb.
