The moment we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. The Opera Cup Tournament was meant to be seen as a showcase of excellence in pro wrestling, but Joseph Samael saw this as an opportunity to melt the Cup into a saber in his honour and the pursuit in CONTRA’s crusade.
This was Lady Glory’s debut match, and it just had to be against Zamaya. I’m starting to think that all these newcomers will have Zamaya as their first challenger in order to weed out the competition. MLW isn’t for the faint of heart, and I’m not pre-judging Lady Glory, but I know it won’t go her way. She managed to stomp Zamaya with a codebreaker variation, and that’s all she was truly able to do. Glory was ploughed down by a clothesline. Zamaya was playing with her food at some point, yet that didn’t matter as she crushed Lady Glory like weak stilts.
BREAKING NEWS Black Tiger will be joining MLW soon. Even more news, Matt Riddle had a HAIRCUT! I’m amazed. I was looking at his head while he was talking to Killer Kross about that IOU ticket, and I could tell his hair got shorter. But I wasn’t about to jinx it. Ha! He looks great, though. Before we get to that Championship match, Scarlett suggested that Riddle and Kross talk about the coming CONTRA storm.
LeBron Kozone vs. Joe Coffey – Round One Opera Cup match
Given what happened to Teddy Long a few weeks back, Kozone entering this against Joe Coffey was bound to clash. That clothesline choke from LeBron was actually effective. Coffey was caught off guard. Joe looked like his soul was taken after that chop to the chest. Damn! As things started to go awry for Joe, Wolfgang and Mark Coffey momentarily intervened. Kozone has been moving gingerly since.
LeBron came close to being squashed a few times now, fortunately, he was able to counter with an explosive drop kick. I saw Kozone in pain due to his lower back as he attempted to powerbomb Coffey, instead, his opponent took the advantage. That headbutt sent LeBron on spaghetti legs. Laughably for Coffey, Kozone dodged an elbow splash and tossed the body.
Later on, Kozone nailed Coffey with a back hand and a trip-up, but he fell victim to a failed Senton as he landed on Joe’s knees. A twisting slam from LeBron was impressive but inconclusive. Joe retaliated with a Moonsault. Both men were going for a discus and were denied. They do hit German suplexes. That final lariat that definitely caused Coffey’s ears to ring was the winning shot.
Winner: LeBron Kozone
Anthony Greene vs. Diego Hill – Round One Opera Cup match
Diego’s confidence in the early goings of the match were performative but good, Anthony didn’t know where to swing. Hill was on a temporary roll as he indulged with the fans by wearing a New York City jersey and got kicked in the face. He’s been wobbling a little ever since. Greene removed the jersey and spat on it. Only boys would use the shirt to wipe their genitals with. Gross… You deserve to lose because of that.
A springboard back kick rightfully nailed Greene in the corner, yet that cover wasn’t enough. Hill was unsuccessful with that Moonsault as Anthony delivered a Kamakazi, also known as So-much-prettier in the Chelsea/Anthony Green/e universe. I wouldn’t be shocked if they were siblings. Diego landed right on his head that worry of spinal injury was mentioned.
Diego ran from the ramp back to the ring and delivered an amazing cutter and a tornado body splash that awarded him the win that looked a bit wonky since Greene’s shoulders weren’t fully down because he wrapped his head with his hands.
Winner: Diego Hill
Matt Riddle vs. Brick Savage
As soon as the bell rang, Savage savagely stormed towards Riddle and shoved him into the corner. Matt dodged a couple of incoming punches, then jumped onto Brick’s back. Despite no one being able to destabilize Savage — let’s not forget what happened to Flip Sequoyah — I still believe that Matt will be the closest. Brick absolutely destroyed Riddle with those clotheslines.
I’ve never witnessed Matt getting ragdolled this way, it was weird, but possible. Joseph Samael showed elatedness on his face as he smiled at Riddle’s shorter end of the stick. Savage missed with a body slam as Matt used that to continually push Brick into the turnbuckles. Riddle foolishly attempted to lift Savage and was thrown across the ring for his troubles.
Every time I’ve seen Riddle perform that Floating Bro, he still managed to land the way a person normally does. This time was different. He literally bounced off Savage’s shoulder like it was nothing, and the man didn’t even buckle. A powerbomb and a body toss stunned Matt into not moving after the three count. Commentary was somewhere else in befuddlement.
