Champions Stand Tall At WrestleDream

Headlined by a one of it’s kind Clockwork Orange match that has Will Ospreay defend his World Championship against seven other men, WrestleDream comes to you from Orlando, Florida. Let’s start the coverage Tailgate Brawl prior to the Main Card.

Sisters of Sin vs Divine Dominion

The Former Tag Team Champions got the victory following a double chokeslam on Julia Hart.

Winners – Divine Dominion

Alex Breeze, Papi D, & Rhys Maddox vs. Don Callis Family (Doyle, Alexander & Wardlow)

Don’t get the need for a squash match on a preshow, but alright i guess.

Winners – Don Callis Family

Bang Bang Gang and Conglomeration vs Death Riders and Dogs

Jay White returning ahead of schedule was genuinely, the match was fine but can’t help but think this was a set up for Blood and Guts.

Winners – Death Riders and Dogs

Best of 5 Series – Match 1: Motor City Machine Guns vs FTR

Officially on the pre show, but most of the match is going to take place on the main card. A genuine dream match and it more than delivered, incredible tag team wrestling. Shelley and Sabin had the crowd in their hands fully by the end, the build up to Sabin’s hot tag is something to see. In the end, they take the lead in the best of 5 series courtesy of a double pumphandle slam.

Winners – Motor City Machine Guns

WrestleDream – Main Card

AEW Women’s World Championship: Mercedes Mone vs Thekla

Thekla got a special entrance through the crowd for the match. In the match, Mone early on cinched in the statement maker, but Thekla was able to bridge out of it. The Champion was able to halt Thekla’s momentum with multiple knees to the face before a lungblower. Looked for another but Thekla was ready this time. “Let’s Go Thekla” “CEO” dueling chants for both women.

Mone tried to pull a fast one using her protective mask to her advantage, failed in the moment but did eventually hit the Mone Maker for the win. Great opener, it really picked up in the final moments.

Winner (And Still) – Mercedes Mone

Nick Wayne vs Jericho

Nick Wayne had the announcer asking the crowd to stand up for him, he really has something here, should not lose today. To the match, it was all Jericho in the opening section, Wayne got control by pushing Jericho off the top to the outside followed by a Moonsault.

Some nice spots that highlights the experience gap between the two. The crowd chanting “Tap” to Wayne being put in the Walls was pretty funny. A PSA on why wearing protective pucks is important, anyway Wayne got the win with a roll up, a win is a win I guess.

Winner – Nick Wayne

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks vs Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher

Honestly, don’t know how to feel about this one. Should be good considering who’s involved but yea. Nick and Knight start the match as the crowd starts a “F*ck Don Callis” chant. The Double Northern Lights by Matt will never not be impressive.

Avalanche Reverse Rama by the younger Jackson and a UFO splash by Knight right after brought out the “Fight Forever” chants. Some good ol fashioned miscommunication and a BTE Trigger meant the Bucks retain their titles. I take back what i said earlier, that was awesome. Also f*ck Don Callis.

Winner (And Still) – The Young Bucks

TBS Championship: Persephone vs Dani Luna vs Queen Aminata vs Hyan

The match just started and all four women tried to roll up each other to no avail, all three challengers then ganged up on Persephone for a moment. Really think Aminata had an outside shot at winning this. Persephone and Luna continuing where they left off from All Out, wouldn’t mind another match.

No title change as Persephone was able to retain. Some cool spots, but never felt like this match clicked in a way that they wanted. Great showing by Aminata too.

Winner (And Still) – Persephone

AEW National Championship: Andrade El Idolo vs Tommaso Ciampa

Andrade rejected Ciampa’s handshake with a slap and we get a striking exchange between the two men. Later, Ciampa didn’t allow El Idolo to take off his pants much to chagrin off the crowd, then didn’t do the same, that to the delight of the crowd. Speaks to the talent of both men that the match is being built around taking their gear off and somehow that does not take away from the match one bit.

Ciampa is wrestling Andrade El Idolo’s pants now and it kicked out, didn’t know i could arrange these words in this particular order until now. He tried to get the belt involved and paid for it with a DDT right on it, this followed by the DM was enough for the champion to retain

Winner (And Still) – Andrade El Idolo

AEW World Trios Championship: Swerve Strickland and New Level vs ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and Brodido

Just like at All Out, it did not take long for Swerve and Hangman to go at it, but there was no peacekeeping like last time the rest joined in. I know I keep saying this, but man what an addition New Level has been to the roster. The Champions get the first fall on Bandido with a New Level double team, then immediately looked to finish things off with a Swerve stomp, Hangman made sure the challengers still remained in the match.

Brodido making sure the match goes to a third fall by getting a three count on Creed. Lots of callbacks to the All Out match. Double Avalanche Revolution Fly by Bandido on New Level, the ROH World Champ then managed to get the victory by via roll up on a shocked Swerve Strickland.

Post match, Swerve took the titles saying they don’t deserve it, New Level disagreed handing theirs over and giving their opponents props. Swerve meanwhile just dropped it Hangman’s face. The best these titles have looked since the best of seven series between the Elite and Death Triangle.

Winners (And New) – ‘Hangman’ Adam Page and Brodido

Renee Pacquette introduces the newest member of All Elite Wrestling, it is none other than Ilja Dragunov. He came out to a raucous applause, had the whole crowd hyped for what’s about to come.

AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley vs Mark Davis

Moxley arriving with a Newcastle United jersey tucked in for PAC. He’s clearly still distraught, not carrying the confidence and composure he usually has. It soon turned ugly with Mox seeing red and bleeding all over. Davis doubled down biting hard on it. He also started gushing blood not long after. It was turning into a great bout.

Despite all this, Moxley was still not in a good state, needing Garcia and Shafir to talk him into getting back in the ring. In the end, Moxley cinches in a Brutalizer before transitioning into a Bulldog choke and Davis faded. Brilliant Match, Davis just keeps shining brighter every opportunity he gets.

Winner (And Still) – Jon Moxley

AEW World Championship: Clockwork Orange Match

This will either be a very fun match or the most convoluted, overbooked match in a long time. No in-between. Anyway, the two wrestlers kicking off will be the World champion Will Ospreay and the former International Champion Konosuke Takeshita. Both of them get their moves in, without really gaining a clear advantage. Third entrant is Ospreay’s stablemate ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey. Next up was Ricochet, who feigned to “work together” with Takeshita…… which lasted under 1 minute.

Darby Allin came next with his skateboard, set up a table, almost eliminated Ricochet. Okada was next in line, he took his sweet time getting into the ring though before going up against Ospreay. The first elimination was by Takeshita getting rid of Bailey just seconds before Copeland entered the fold. He then joined him soon, courtesy of a Rainmaker by Okada.

Points came in thick and fast after Samoa Joe entered as the final match. Everyone except Copeland had points on the board within five minutes of the scoring period. After not having a single point to his name, Copeland got two successive points and now with two minutes remaining it was him, Ospreay, Joe and Allin with two points each. Copeland looked like he had it in the bag, but Ospreay struck with a hidden blade and got the lead in the final seconds to win it.

The second stage of the match was admittedly very fun, will not lie. The first stage at times did felt like a chore to get through, but then again the second stage more than made up for it.

Winner (And Still) – Will Ospreay
