WWE SmackDown is expected to return to its traditional two-hour format in the coming weeks, with the decision reportedly coming from USA Network rather than WWE.
As reported by BodySlam+, an exact date has not yet been confirmed, with the May 1 and May 8 episodes still listed as three-hour broadcasts, indicating the change will take place later in the month. The move is said to be driven by the network’s upcoming programming schedule, which includes new and returning shows set to air in the 10 p.m. timeslot.
SmackDown has historically aired as a two-hour show since its debut in 1999, with the three-hour format only used intermittently in recent years. The extended runtime has previously been viewed as unpopular among both fans and those within WWE.
WWE SmackDown’s Return To Two-Hour Show May Have Led To Recent Roster Cuts
The shift back to SmackDown being two hours may also have had wider implications, with reports suggesting it played a role in roster cuts following WrestleMania 42, which saw multiple SmackDown talents among those released.
