A WWE Hall of Famer believes TNA Wrestling’s future could be in doubt if reports about the company’s purchase rights are accurate.
Recent reports have indicated that WWE holds a right of first refusal regarding any potential sale of TNA. Such a clause would allow the World Wrestling Entertainment to match an offer from another interested buyer and acquire the promotion itself.
Speaking on his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett admitted he would be concerned if the reported arrangement is indeed in place.
“If that’s true, boy, oh boy,” Jarrett said.
The TNA co-founder suggested that the ongoing partnership between NXT and TNA could ultimately make an acquisition easier if WWE decided to bring the promotion under its umbrella.
“Let’s give them this talent, let’s give them this talent. Let’s get them on that WWE train and get the audience of TNA and WWE and NXT, and let’s marry them up,” Jarrett said. “Let’s even do a TNA/NXT kind of storyline battle.”
Jarrett then made it clear what he believes such a clause could mean for TNA’s long-term future.
“If it’s there, then the writing is on the wall, and it’s in super glue.”
The two wrestling promotions have worked closely together throughout their partnership, with talent regularly appearing across NXT and TNA programming.
WWE’s Potential TNA Buyout Has Been Compared To Previous Promotion Purchases
The reported clause has also drawn comparisons to the company’s previous relationships with several European promotions, including PROGRESS, OTT, and wXw, whose content was featured on the promotion’s streaming platforms.
The company also previously held a similar arrangement with EVOLVE. They ultimately purchased the promotion in 2020, which was later revived as a WWE-branded property.
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation regarding the reported right-of-first-refusal clause, but Jarrett’s comments highlight the concerns some have about what such an agreement could mean for the future of the promotion he helped create.
