Trick Williams knew he wanted to be a pro wrestler from the age of 3.
At WrestleMania 42, Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn to win the United States Championship for the first time. That moment was the culmination of a seven-year journey that began when he first tried out for WWE in 2018. However, his ambition to become a pro-wrestler started a lot earlier in life, with inspiration coming from the biggest stars of the Attitude Era.
Speaking to News 19 WLTX, Williams said he grew up watching The Rock and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, with Austin causing him to cuss for the first time at only three years old.
“I grew up, I watched the Attitude Era. Stone Cold, The Rock, all these guys. So my first cuss word, I ain’t going to say it, but I opened a can of Whoop-Aid at three years old.”
Seeing how the legendary stars controlled the crowd made Williams realise that was what he wanted to do himself.
“So seeing them and watching The Rock, the way they can control the crowd, the way their music drop and the people just go crazy, I said, ‘I want that for myself,’ and here we are.”
Trick Williams Chose WWE Over Football
In an interview with the Battleground Podcast in February, Trick Williams reflected on choosing WWE over a football career. Williams explained that he was at a crossroads seven years ago when he had to decide between the two. Ultimately, his desire to find out what it was like to feel the energy of a WWE audience made him go down the path of becoming a pro wrestler.
