Rhea Ripley has provided a positive update on the recovery of her husband, Buddy Matthews, who has been sidelined for more than a year with an injury.
Speaking on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, Rhea Ripley revealed that Buddy Matthews has recently resumed in-ring training as he continues working toward a return to action. Matthews has been absent from AEW programming since suffering an injury during the company’s February 2025 trip to Australia. According to Ripley, the former House of Black member is now back inside the ring and gradually increasing his workload as part of the rehabilitation process.
“He’s just started getting back into the ring now,” Ripley said. “Just trying to rehab it and see what he can do.”
Rhea Ripley Says She Has Been Helping Buddy Matthews Train For His In-Ring Return
Rhea Ripley added that she has even been helping Buddy Matthews with certain aspects of his training, including wrestling rolls and ring drills, while the couple works together on his comeback preparations. While Matthews is pushing himself to regain ring shape, Ripley admitted she takes a more cautious approach due to her demanding WWE schedule and desire to avoid unnecessary injuries.
“He’s definitely going harder than me right now because he’s trying to get back into that mode,” she said.
Matthews has not yet been given an official timetable for his return, but Ripley’s comments suggest the AEW star has reached a significant stage in his recovery after spending more than a year on the sidelines.
