Penta learned a lot when he faced Roman Reigns in Mexico City.
In the main event of the September 14th edition of Raw in Mexico City, Penta challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship. Despite his home country crowd being firmly behind him, Penta couldn’t overcome the OTC. However, he did appreciate the experience.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the former Intercontinental Champion recalled the hectic day ahead of the match, which saw problems at every turn.
“That day, bro, was too much stress for me because I have a lot of things in my brain. The first thing is against Roman Reigns, first time ever. Mexico City. My family is there. Hours before that, you saw my arrival shot in the arena with the horse.
“Two hours before my match, maybe three, problems with the horse. It’s not here, maybe it’s delayed, maybe something. You need makeup, I need to go the ring, I practice this. Oh, you have an interview. Oh, you have a meet and greet.
“To be honest, two days later than my match, I started sitting in my garden like, ‘Wow.’ I promise you, two days later because in that moment, everything is on my brain. Hey Penta, you need interview. Oh, Roman is here. Oh, the horse will come. I become crazy in that moment. When I opened my eyes, they were like, ‘You are next.’ Oh s**t. Everything was too fast, but in the same moment, I tried to enjoy every moment and every interview. When my, the name in Mexico is a penacho, I use for my presentation, the guy says, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be late.’ Come on.
“Everything was rushed but at the end of the day, it was perfect.”
“Everything Was So Special” – Penta On Match With Roman Reigns
Penta says that he has a newfound appreciation for Roman Reigns and understands why he is the “best wrestler in the universe.”
“I learned a lot facing Roman Reigns. I know now why he is one of the best wrestlers or the best wrestler in the universe. The character, the Shakespeare, every move, you can breathe, you can enjoy every move.
“It’s different, but I like that style. I feel this moment in the ring when it’s the Big Dog, basically. He looks at me, I look at him, the whole crowd is with me, thank God. Everything was so special and magic. I couldn’t imagine one moment like that in Mexico, like, when? How?!”
As the current holder of the Money in the Bank briefcase, Penta can challenge Reigns again at a time of his choosing. However, in a recent interview, he said he is in no rush to decide whether to challenge Reigns or Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn.
