WWE Raw returned to Mexico City on September 14, with Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta in the main event.
The show opened with a video package recapping the World Heavyweight Championship number one contender’s tournament match between Penta and Rey Fenix before Corey Graves and Joe Tessitore welcomed viewers.
Rey Mysterio then headed to the ring, where Raw General Manager Adam Pearce was waiting.
Rey Mysterio And Stephanie Vaquer Address Mexico City
Mysterio welcomed the crowd to Raw and noted that the show was taking place in Mexico City for the first time in 15 years.
After addressing the fans in Spanish, Mysterio said it would be a historic night and highlighted Stephanie Vaquer’s win of the Women’s World Championship in her home country of Chile as one of the standout moments from WWE’s recent South American tour.
Vaquer joined Mysterio and Pearce in the ring and said winning back the championship in Chile had been the joy of her life. She also said it meant a lot to return to Mexico as champion.
Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio interrupted. Morgan claimed she had been screwed out of the Women’s World Championship in Chile before insulting Rey, with Dominik joining in.
Dominik then showed footage of El Grande Americano defeating him for the AAA Mega Championship with Rey serving as special guest referee.
Dominik challenged Rey and Vaquer to a Mixed Tag Team Match against himself and Morgan. Pearce revealed that Rey was not medically cleared to compete, prompting El Grande Americano to step in.
Stephanie Vaquer & El Grande Americano vs. Liv Morgan & Dominik Mysterio
El Grande Americano immediately took control against Dominik before Vaquer and Morgan entered the match.
Morgan gained the advantage and connected with the Three Amigos before Dominik and Americano returned. Americano responded with a back body drop, clothesline and blockbuster before Morgan became involved from the apron.
Morgan later prevented Vaquer from getting the tag, but Americano stayed in the fight and caught Dominik with an Air Raid Crash.
Vaquer eventually tagged in and delivered The Devil’s Kiss to Morgan. Morgan responded with a Codebreaker after Vaquer became distracted.
Americano looked for a 619 on Dominik, but Morgan slapped him from the apron. Vaquer kicked Morgan into the middle rope, then Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez appeared and attacked Vaquer, causing the disqualification.
Winners: Stephanie Vaquer & El Grande Americano via disqualification
The attack continued after the bell as Dominik dragged Rey into the ring. Americano initially stopped him, but JD McDonagh appeared, took Americano down with a headbutt, then hit a moonsault.
Morgan delivered Oblivion to Vaquer before Dominik hit his father with a Frog Splash.
Money In The Bank Qualifying Triple Threat Match: Big Cass vs. Austin Theory vs. Je’Von Evans
Austin Theory attempted to form an alliance with Big Cass at the opening bell, but Cass responded by attacking him.
Je’Von Evans attempted a sleeper on Cass, sent him out of the ring, and took the fight to Theory. Cass regained control outside the ring and chokeslammed Evans into Theory in the timekeeper’s area.
Theory later got Cass onto his shoulders and connected with a sit-out powerbomb, only for Evans to immediately hit Theory with a Frog Splash.
Maxxine Dupri became involved at ringside as she checked on Theory and later pulled him out of the ring to prevent Cass from attacking him.
Evans attempted an OG Cutter on Cass but was initially stopped. Theory then tried to steal the victory by pinning Evans after Cass hit him with a big boot, but Cass broke up the fall.
In the closing moments, Evans sent Theory crashing into Cass, then hit him with the OG Cutter to secure his place in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Winner: Je’Von Evans
WWE Intercontinental Title Match: Chad Gable (c) vs. Dragon Lee
Dragon Lee pushed the pace early against Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable, taking the fight outside the ring with a tope con hilo.
Gable responded by targeting Lee’s left ankle and using his suplex offence to slow the challenger down.
The pair battled on the ropes before Gable delivered an Angle Slam from the top. Lee remained in the match and later connected with a double stomp to Gable’s chest.
Gable responded with a belly-to-belly throw and moonsault before Lee hit a running knee and Operation Dragon for another near fall.
The champion locked in the Ankle Lock, but Lee escaped and hit a Styles Clash. Gable survived the pin attempt and applied the Ankle Lock for a second time, eventually forcing Lee to submit.
Winner: Chad Gable
After the match, Gable offered Lee his hand. Lee accepted before Gable hugged his challenger and raised his arm in respect.
Women’s Money In The Bank Qualifying Triple Threat Match: Raquel Rodriguez vs. Lola Vice vs. Kelani Jordan
Kelani Jordan initially let Raquel Rodriguez and Lola Vice battle before getting involved.
Vice and Jordan briefly teamed up against Rodriguez, but the alliance quickly fell apart as all three women fought for control.
Jordan connected with a springboard moonsault on Rodriguez outside the ring before Vice wiped out Jordan with a running senton from the apron.
Rodriguez used her strength to take control, but Jordan and Vice fought back. Jordan later connected with a Frog Splash on Rodriguez before attempting a 450 Splash.
Vice caught Jordan in a Triangle hold, which Rodriguez broke up. Vice then applied a sleeper to Rodriguez, but Rodriguez escaped and knocked Jordan from the apron.
Vice capitalised immediately, rolling up Rodriguez to win and advance to the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Winner: Lola Vice
Becky Lynch was then shown outside Arena CDMX, where she put Stephanie Vaquer and the Women’s World Championship on notice.
WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Penta
Penta immediately took the fight to Roman Reigns, connecting with a modified Bronco Buster before wiping out the World Heavyweight Champion with a tope con hilo.
Reigns slowed the challenger by sending him into the ring post, but Penta fought back with a lungblower and springboard DDT.
Penta then connected with a Penta Driver for a near fall. Reigns answered with a Superman Punch before Penta escaped a spear attempt and delivered a Mexican Destroyer.
Reigns landed on his feet and immediately hit a spear, but Penta kicked out.
The champion then grabbed a microphone and demanded that Mexico City acknowledge him. Penta interrupted his celebration with a kick and springboard Mexican Destroyer for another close near fall.
The two exchanged strikes before Penta connected with three superkicks. As Penta attempted to follow up, Reigns intercepted him and delivered another spear to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Winner: Roman Reigns
Reigns stood tall with the World Heavyweight Championship after the match as Penta watched from the entrance ramp to close the show.
