WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Lainey Reid has said she has no remorse over the incident that left Chelsea Green with a broken orbital bone.
Chelsea Green suffered the injury on the first episode of SmackDown following SummerSlam, when she teamed with Tiffany Stratton against Fatal Influence’s Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Reid addressed the injury and Green’s subsequent fight to remain WWE Women’s Champion.
Reid argued that the situation ultimately gave Green one of the biggest segments of her career when she refused to surrender the championship on last week’s SmackDown. When Bully Ray asked whether she felt any remorse over what Fatal Influence had done, Reid made it clear that she did not regret her actions.
“The remorse is that she still has a chance to compete with the title. The remorse is that I didn’t finish the job.”
Chelsea Green’s Interim WWE Women’s Title Reign In Jeopardy Following Injury Suffered At The Hands Of Lainey Reid
Chelsea Green captured the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2026, fulfilling her goal of winning the title for the first time in her career. However, her reign was immediately placed in jeopardy after she suffered the orbital injury on SmackDown. The injury led to speculation that Green could be forced to relinquish the championship.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis initially appeared to confirm those fears on last week’s show when he took the championship away from Green. Green responded with an emotional address to the crowd as she prepared to leave without the title. Her words ultimately caused Aldis to reconsider his decision.
Aldis gave Green 30 days to recover from the injury and returned the Women’s Championship to her, giving her an opportunity to remain champion if she can receive medical clearance within that timeframe.
Green is therefore still recognised as WWE Women’s Champion, although her immediate future remains dependent on whether she can recover sufficiently before Aldis’ deadline. Reid, meanwhile, appears to have little sympathy for Green’s situation, making it clear that her only regret is that Fatal Influence did not prevent the champion from having the opportunity to return.
