Kevin Nash has revealed that WWE originally wanted Diesel to use one of rock music’s most iconic songs as his entrance theme, but the idea was abandoned due to the cost.
Speaking on Kliq This, the WWE Hall of Famer recalled how his entrance music evolved during his run as Diesel, including plans for him to walk to the ring to George Thorogood’s “Bad To The Bone.”
During the discussion, co-host Sean Oliver asked Kevin Nash whether WWE had ever approached him about appearing in one of the company’s music projects, prompting Nash to explain that Diesel’s presentation was always intended to be different.
“You’ve got to realise, I came out to a horn.”
Nash said his entrance theme was later updated after he became WWF Champion, with WWE introducing a new blues-inspired track to better suit the character.
“Later, as I was champion, I had the glass break, and then I had the bluesy one because they wanted something cool. I was supposed to come out to ‘Bad To The Bone.'”
According to Nash, WWE ultimately decided against licensing the song because of the cost.
“They didn’t want to pay $100,000 for the rights.”
Instead, Diesel continued to use the original entrance music that had become synonymous with his championship run.
Kevin Nash Addressed His Diesel Entrance Song Resembling The Roseanne Theme Tune
Kevin Nash also addressed a long-running joke among wrestling fans that Diesel’s theme resembles the theme song from the sitcom Roseanne.
“If you’ve ever watched on the internet, they have Diesel come to the ring to the Roseanne theme. I think the Roseanne theme is almost like the Diesel theme.”
While WWE never secured the rights to “Bad To The Bone,” Nash admitted he still finds the comparison to the Roseanne theme amusing, with the fan-made videos remaining popular years after his in-ring career.
