Janel Grant has revealed that she was recently hospitalised after suffering a serious fall at home that left her with a concussion, broken ribs and a lung haemorrhage.
Janel Grant, whose 2024 lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE led to McMahon resigning from his position at TKO, detailed the incident in an Instagram post on Monday. Grant said she believes the accident occurred in late July or early August when she tripped over the edge of a carpet runner while walking back to bed. She fell into a wooden bed frame and wall unit before blacking out.
“I remember falling. I don’t remember falling for days. I was alone,” Grant wrote.
Grant said she has no memory of the days immediately following the accident and was unaware that she had suffered a head injury or continued falling.
“My next memory is days later. I was being driven to the hospital out of concern about my well-being,” she wrote. “I had a concussion, broken ribs, and a lung hemorrhage.”
According to Grant, people who had been in contact with her became concerned about her condition and took action despite not being physically present to see her injuries. Grant connected the accident to what she described as the “daily atrophy” she has experienced since June 2022. She alleged that multiple areas of her life have been affected over that period, including her physical and mental health, finances, employment and support system.
Being taken to hospital also proved particularly emotional for Grant. She said it was the same facility where her father died and where she had previously volunteered before beginning her employment with WWE.
Grant recalled becoming emotional while answering questions during the hospital intake process about her family, employment, insurance and emergency contacts.
Janel Grant Said She Is Grateful For The Help Of The People Around Her
Despite the seriousness of her injuries and the circumstances surrounding the accident, Janel Grant said the experience has left her appreciative of the people who recognised she needed help.
“Despite everything in my life breaking, I’ve never felt more alive,” she wrote. “I’ve also never believed more in the power of humanity to rally around someone in need.”
Grant said that if the same accident had happened one or two years earlier, she does not believe anyone would have had enough consistent contact with her to recognise that something was wrong. She credited several people with making calls and arranging help after sensing that she needed assistance.
“How they treated me in that moment, when I needed help but didn’t know it, reflected what’s in their hearts: compassion, patience and human kindness… THANK YOU.”
Janel Grant filed her lawsuit in January 2024, accusing Vince McMahon of sexual assault and sex trafficking. Grant dismissed her case with prejudice back in July, and the case entered private arbitration.
