A fundraising effort has been launched following the death of a UK wrestling fan during WrestleMania 42 weekend.
The family of Marc Izard, who passed away aged 43 in Las Vegas, have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of bringing him back to the UK and arranging his funeral. In a statement on the page, the family wrote:
“On Saturday, April 18, our lives changed forever. Our beloved brother, Marc Izard, passed away in Las Vegas while doing what he loved most, attending WWE WrestleMania weekend.”
Izard was described as a lifelong fan who travelled extensively for wrestling events, from independent shows to major WWE weekends. He had attended WWE SmackDown in the days leading up to his passing.
“Marc wasn’t just a spectator, he was a staple of the wrestling community,” the statement read. “From his childhood days to his travels across the globe, Marc’s life was defined by his passion for the ring.”
The fundraiser has been launched to support international repatriation costs, with the family noting the financial burden of bringing him home is significant. They have called on the wider wrestling community to assist by donating or sharing the campaign.
“Marc travelled the world for wrestling. Now, we just want to bring him home one last time,” the statement added.
The family also confirmed that any remaining funds will be donated in his memory to Diabetes UK, Addenbrooke’s Hospital Charitable Trust, and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
