Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson has revealed that he once held talks with WWE’s CCO Triple H about a potential in-ring career, but ultimately chose to remain focused on strongman competition.
Speaking with Ross Tucker, the actor and former World’s Strongest Man winner, recalled visiting WWE’s headquarters in Tampa around 2015, where he met with Triple H and other company officials to discuss the possibility of joining the promotion.
“At one point in my life, it crossed my mind, and I flew to Tampa, met up with Triple H and the team and went to the office and spoke to them,” Björnsson said. “It crossed my mind that they were trying to do WWE, but nothing came out of it. I think they saw that my mind was more into Strongman, and yeah, we spoke, but nothing of all of it.”
Standing just under seven feet tall, Björnsson would have been a natural fit among WWE’s larger-than-life superstars. However, he said his priority at the time remained his strongman career.
Despite Talks With Triple H, Hafþór Björnsson Decided To Continue His Strongman Career
Hafþór Björnsson went on to win the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 and established himself as one of the sport’s most accomplished competitors. Outside of strength sports, he is also widely recognised for portraying Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
While a WWE career never materialised, Björnsson’s comments confirm that discussions did take place before he decided to continue pursuing success in strongman rather than stepping into the wrestling ring.
