A recently released WWE tag team is already being linked with a move to AEW following the post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts.
That team is the Motor City Machine Guns, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, who are set to become free agents in July when their WWE non-compete clauses expire. While TNA remains a potential landing spot, Fightful Select reported that it is expected that AEW will ultimately be their destination, although no formal contact has been confirmed at this stage.
There is already a history between the two sides. AEW reportedly made a strong push to sign the duo in 2024, even presenting a formal offer before WWE matched it and secured their signatures at the time. With that deal now concluded, the door is open for those talks to resume.
Motor City Machine Guns Reportedly Happy With Their WWE Run Despite Their Release
Within WWE, the pair are said to have taken their release in stride and remain confident about their future. While they had hoped for more opportunities, they were at least satisfied with how they were used during their run, even as their appearances slowed in recent months.
The team joined WWE in late 2024 and made an immediate impact, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships in just their third match. However, they only made 30 broadcast appearances in their year-and-a-half tenure before being released on April 24, 2026.
