A former WWE co-head writer has been named a possible candidate to replace Tommy Dreamer as TNA’s head of creative.
Tommy Dreamer’s lengthy association with TNA has come to an end. The ECW original announced on Busted Open Radio that he and TNA have mutually agreed to part ways, bringing an end to a run with the company that stretched back to 2018. Dreamer had most recently been serving as TNA’s Head of Creative while also holding several other roles behind the scenes and on screen.
Speaking on the programme, an emotional Dreamer stressed that there was no animosity between the two sides and described the departure as the conclusion of a demanding role that had become a constant part of his life.
Dreamer said the decision followed a recent conversation with TNA President Carlos Silva. While acknowledging the difficulty of leaving, he made clear that he remains supportive of the company and wants to see it succeed moving forward.
During his time in TNA, Dreamer worked as a producer, a member of the creative team, an on-screen authority figure, and an active wrestler. He became Head of Creative in 2024 and played a key role in shaping the promotion’s television product during a period of significant change.
His exit comes amid increased scrutiny of TNA’s creative direction following the company’s move to AMC in January 2026. According to reports, some within the promotion anticipated changes to the creative structure, although there had been expectations that any move might occur after Slammiversary rather than before the event.
Former WWE SmackDown Head Writer Brian “Road Dogg” James Discussed Internally As A Potential Replacement For Tommy Dreamer
Attention has already turned to who could replace Dreamer. Fightful Select reports that Brian “Road Dogg” James has been discussed internally as a possible candidate for the position. Road Dogg departed WWE earlier this year after serving as a co-lead writer on WWE SmackDown. At the time, he cited the increasingly fast-paced nature of WWE creative, a reduced role within the writing team, and a desire to spend more time with his family.
Despite leaving WWE, Road Dogg is believed to remain under a Legends deal that allows him to make occasional appearances for the company.
