CM Punk‘s recent physical transformation has sparked plenty of online discussion, but a former WWE star isn’t ready to jump to any conclusions.
Speaking on The Stevie Richards Show (quotes courtesy of wrestlingnews.co), former 21-time WWE Hardcore Champion Stevie Richards addressed speculation surrounding CM Punk’s noticeably more muscular appearance during his absence from WWE television. Punk has been away from WWE programming since losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42 Night Two, leading to widespread discussion among fans after recent photos surfaced online.
Richards admitted his initial reaction to the images was surprise, even joking that he wondered whether the photos had been altered or generated using artificial intelligence. However, he made it clear that he was not accusing Punk of using steroids or any other performance-enhancing substances.
“Everybody has a choice: live the life you want to live,” Richards said.
Ryback Also Defended CM Punk Amidst Steroid Accusations
The former WWE Hardcore Champion echoed comments recently made by Ryback, who publicly defended CM Punk against steroid accusations. Ryback argued that nobody truly knows what has contributed to Punk’s physique except Punk himself and any medical professionals involved in his care.
According to Ryback, improved training, nutrition, recovery, and consistency could all explain the change. He also noted that even if hormone replacement therapy were involved, medically supervised treatment should not automatically be viewed negatively.
Richards also referenced comments from Ryan Nemeth, who appeared to take a subtle shot at Punk on social media. Nemeth made a sarcastic remark about straight-edge wrestlers and performance-enhancing drugs, a post many fans interpreted as being directed at the former WWE champion.
The discussion eventually broadened into a conversation about steroid speculation within professional wrestling. Richards noted that wrestlers are frequently questioned about steroids, while other performance-enhancing substances are discussed far less often. He also revealed that he had previously considered testosterone replacement therapy after learning his hormone levels were on the lower side, but ultimately decided against it.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Richards stressed that there is no way for outsiders to know what Punk is or isn’t doing. He added that his primary concern is Punk’s long-term health rather than internet rumours.
