Chad Gable says his match with Rey Mysterio on Raw was everything he loves about pro wrestling.
On the August 17th edition of Raw, Chad Gable made his first Intercontinental Championship defence against Rey Mysterio. Despite Mysterio’s best efforts, he couldn’t put Gable away, and the champion was able to retain his title after reversing a pin into a roll-up to score the victory. After the match, Gable embraced Mysterio and raised his arm.
Following the show, Gable reflected on the match in a social media post, saying he’s astonished by Mysterio’s ability to perform at such a high level at the age of 51.
“Last night I had the honor of defending the Intercontinental Championship against one of the greatest Professional Wrestlers of all time.
“But what’s more astonishing to me than Rey’s continued ability to perform at the level he did last night at this point in his career – is the fact that a guy with his list of accomplishments in this business can be as genuinely humble, gracious, and grounded as he is.
“Rey Mysterio is truly a human being like no other I’ve ever met. Our encounter was, and is, everything I love about Pro Wrestling.
I felt alive.”

Recently, WWE Hall of Famer JBL spoke about how Chad Gable had “elevated his game” in AAA. The former WWE Heavyweight Champion said Gable had reached a different level while in Mexico and had come back to WWE as a “world-class worker.” JBL suggested that the change might be down to getting guidance from The Undertaker, something Gable has said himself.
