Brock Lesnar’s emotional WrestleMania 42 moment may not signal the end of his in-ring career, according to reports.
Brock Lesnar left his gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi, before embracing Paul Heyman and acknowledging the crowd as they chanted in appreciation. The following night on Raw, WWE aired a career retrospective, with Heyman stating Lesnar should be placed in the “Forever” portion of the company’s “Then. Now. Forever” opening.
Despite the presentation, internal belief within WWE is that Lesnar has not officially retired. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer indicated that while a retirement is expected at some point, it may not have taken place yet.
“I will only say that based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet, although he is retiring at some point probably this year,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know that anyone knows… this might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet.”
Reports Suggest Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 Retirement Angle Was Not Planned In Advance
Further reports suggest that Brock Lesnar’s actions at WrestleMania were not widely known in advance. Only a limited number of individuals were reportedly aware he would leave his gear in the ring, with many within WWE expecting his retirement to take place later in the year, potentially at SummerSlam.
It was also noted that Lesnar’s programme with Femi was originally planned as a longer feud before creative plans changed in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. The rivalry was instead condensed into a single match, with Femi defeating Lesnar in a brief encounter on the show.
