AJ Styles thinks WWE would be “dumb” not to capitalise on Chad Gable’s popularity, saying he could be a heavyweight champion in the company.
At AAA Noche de Los Grandes, Chad Gable was revealed to be the original El Grande Americano after losing an acclaimed Mask vs. Mask match against his successor, who will now be the sole Americano.
After the loss, a humbled Gable returned to SmackDown on June 5th, where he apologised to Rey Fenix for mocking Lucha Libre, and said he had learned from his experience under a mask in Mexico.
With Gable seemingly back to his old self in WWE, AJ Styles says WWE needs to capitalise on his popularity following his feud with Americano. During the latest edition of The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles said Gable is bigger than he’s ever been.
“I think he’s a bigger superstar than he’s ever been at this very moment. If we don’t capitalize, and I say we because I’m part of WWE, we don’t capitalize on this, we’re dumb. We’re dummies.”
“This Guy Can Take Care Of Business” – AJ Styles on Chad Gable
Praising Gable as “legit,” AJ Styles said he had everything it takes to be a heavyweight champion in the company.
“He can be heavyweight champion. He’s a legit freaking pro wrestler that there’s no way somebody in the crowd is going, ‘I think I can take freaking Chad Cable.’ Dude, legit, he will drop you on your head and there’s nothing you can do about it. He will scoop you up and drop you.
“This guy is legit. Everything about him, his look, ability, everything about him is a scary if you know anything about collegiate wrestling or pro wrestling. This guy can take care of business. Yeah no, he’s legit.”
While Styles thinks he can be a champion in WWE, Chad Gable may be considering going back to his amateur wrestling roots, as Eric Bischoff has claimed the star is “sniffing around” his Real American Freestyle promotion.
