A dramatic betrayal during the 12-man steel cage match at AEW Forbidden Door has left AEW World Champion MJF with another major challenger.
The shocking moment came during the closing stages of the brutal co-main event when Andrade El Idolo turned on MJF, officially ending his association with the AEW World Champion and the Don Callis Family.
Team Briscoe emerged victorious in the bloody encounter after Mark Briscoe pinned Jake Doyle with the Jay Driller, but the decisive sequence began moments earlier.
After Briscoe dropped MJF with a Jay Driller, Doyle broke up the pinfall before MJF ordered Andrade to hold Briscoe in place for a shot with the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
Although Andrade initially hesitated, MJF continued to demand that he follow his instructions. Instead, Andrade shoved Briscoe out of the way and blasted MJF with his trademark back elbow before revealing a shirt reading “F*ck MJF F*ck Don,” confirming his long-awaited babyface turn.
The victory gave Team Briscoe the win inside the steel cage and immediately created another potential challenger for the AEW World Championship.
Following the match, Briscoe wasted little time in calling his shot, challenging MJF for the AEW World Championship on this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. Kevin Knight is also owed a future title opportunity after agreeing to join MJF’s team for the match.
AEW Debuted New Rounded Steel Cage At Forbidden Door
Forbidden Door also marked the debut of AEW’s new rounded steel cage, which featured a truss around the top, allowing competitors to fight outside the ring. Ring announcer Justin Roberts introduced the structure as “Death’s Door” before the match began.
The chaotic contest also reignited several rivalries, including Darby Allin‘s issues with Kevin Knight and Konosuke Takeshita‘s confrontations with both Kazuchika Okada and Kyle Fletcher.
The match featured Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle O’Reilly, Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong defeating MJF, Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Andrade El Idolo, Jake Doyle and Kazuchika Okada, but it was Andrade’s stunning decision to turn against his own team that proved to be the defining moment of the night.
