The Young Bucks are excited for the future of AEW’s tag team division and will continue to be part of it.
During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the future of some of AEW’s top stars, noting that he had heard The Young Bucks could be on their last contract as wrestlers. Matt and Nick Jackson re-signed with AEW in 2023 alongside Kenny Omega and Adam Page. At the time, it was rumoured that those deals would last for 4-5 years, bringing them up to 2027 or 2028.
At AEW All In London, the Bucks were finally able to compete in one of their biggest dream matches when they challenged Adam Copeland and Christian Cage for the World Tag Team Championship. To the surprise of many, the challengers left Wembley Stadium empty-handed after Cage loaded his arm brace with a wrench to take out Matt Jackson and throw him into a spear from Cope for the win.
After the bout, The Motor City Machine Guns, FTR, and the latest addition to the tag division, The New Level – Kofi and Austin Creed – made their presence felt in the ring. In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Matt Jackson said the moment was a “mind-blowing experience.”
“And that moment after the match in the ring? That was a mind-blowing experience. It’s an embarrassment of riches having a tag team roster this loaded, and it just excites me.
“Gosh, the possibilities are just endless. I looked at the ring of talent and thought to myself, ‘Thank God. I’m truly in the business at the right time.’ Motor City Machine Guns are a team who many called our greatest rivals in the first half of our career, and New Level is a match we’ve been trying to have for nearly a decade. What a time to be alive.”
The Young Bucks Will Treat Every Match Like It’s Their Last
Although there are a lot of options for The Young Bucks’ next rivalry, Jackson admitted that they’ll always go back to FTR.
“I think as long as FTR is breathing, there is going to be a professional rivalry. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bug me a little that we’re tied at three apiece, but maybe it’s good because it keeps us motivated and hungry. It’s this insatiable desire to keep going. Speaking of keeping going, we’re excited for the next several months of incredibly competitive matches with the most stacked tag division ever.”
Jackson finished by saying he doesn’t know how long the Bucks will continue to wrestle, but will treat every match as their last.
“Who knows how long we’ll continue to do it. But we’re going to do what we’ve always done and treat every match like it’s our last.”
