An injured AEW star has made a surprise return to television after spending nearly six months on the sidelines.
Josh Alexander made his surprise return to AEW television on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite following nearly six months on the sidelines. The Don Callis Family member appeared following TNT Champion Darby Allin’s successful title defence against Mark Davis. Allin was attacked by Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta after the match, prompting Steven Borden to attempt to make the save.
However, Alexander made his return by taking out Borden, who was involved in a staredown with Davis. The appearance marked Alexander’s first time back on AEW television since suffering what he described as a “pretty severe” knee injury earlier this year.
Josh Alexander Returns To AEW After Knee Surgery
Josh Alexander suffered the injury while competing in a trios match on the March 18 episode of AEW Collision. He subsequently underwent surgery several weeks later. The exact nature of the injury was never disclosed. However, Dave Meltzer previously reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Alexander had been dealing with problems involving the knee for several years.
According to Meltzer, Alexander’s knee “has been bothering him for six years and he kind of knew that at some point he’d have to take care of it, and it appears now is that point.” Despite returning to television, Alexander has not yet been announced for his first match back in the ring.
The former TNA star joined AEW in 2025, making his debut against Hangman Page in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament in April before aligning himself with Don Callis. Alexander quickly became a regular presence after his arrival, competing 43 times in his first 11 months with AEW before a knee injury brought his run to a temporary halt.
