Carlito’s one-liner on Raw has been scrubbed from WWE’s social media posts.
Carlito met with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce as part of the show.
As he was entering the office Damage CTRL (Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane) were leaving. They exited speaking Japanese.
A frazzled, lamebrain Carlito said to Pearce: “I’ve got to learn Chinese.”
Word is Carlito went off script with the joke and WWE production staff were not pleased with him ad-libbing. Reportedly, Sky and Sane had no problem with the joke as it was depicting Carlito’s character as the clueless clown he is.
Wrestling fans are divided on whether the line was indeed controversial:
I think the heat came from all the people who over-reacted. It’s been said that HHH monitors online responses. It was a harmless joke, showing Carlito’s character as being clueless.

I’m guessing he was just trying to be funny. Carlito should apologize and move on.

Nothing about this or what Carlito said was racist. Not everything is about race and hate

So it would be racist if someone thought Carlito was from Colombia?

I’m half Japanese and I found that segment funny af. Carlito’s comedic timing was gold.

Still, assuming and categorizing Asians as Chinese isn’t right
When there’s many many types of Asians out there, there’s Thai, Japanese, Korean, Philippino, Vietnamese and many others
But they assume Chinese, I didn’t find it funny , Carlito could’ve have said anything else

It was racist so it shouldn’t have been said. End of story. Carlito isn’t a stand up comedian he’s a wrestler.

It is not clear whether Carlito will face any disciplinary action for going off script.
