New faces are coming to the National Wrestling Alliance, and others are looking for their first opportunity to have championship gold around their waist. The person in this case is Matt Vine, the Fixers protege as he will challenge Kerry Morton for the NWA Junior Heavyweight belt in the main event later tonight on this NWA POWERRR.

But we come to you from StudioOne in Highland Park, Il. Joe Galli and Tim Storm have the call, and we start with the First Match of the Night between…

Jax Dane (with Chris Silvio, Esq.) vs. Carnage (with Aron Stevens)

I’m not big on “heel versus heel” matchups, however, I am curious about what will happen with the managers waiting in the background.  As the match itself starts off this is going, to quote Todd Keneley, to the land of the big uglies, even though Dane wears his furry vest and is not seeing Carnage as a threat.  The masked man gets a quick start on offense to the point that Dane is able to suplex Carnage, and now the vest comes off and he becomes super focused.  Carnage is no pushover as he dropkicks Dane to the outside.  He sends him back into the ring, and Carnage lands a corner splash but Dane traps his arms and launches him with a belly-to-belly suplex.  He attempts to pop the trunk with his Dane Event clothesline, but Carnage reverses to a powerslam for a two count.  He tries to follow up with a leg lariat that misses and Dane hits the Samoan drop.  He sets up in the corner for his finisher where a Stevens grabs his boot.  Dane ain’t having it and goes outside and stalks Stevens.  That allows Carnage to catch Dane with a baseball slide, but he recovers quickly with a kick to the gut and throws him back in.  Before he can enter, Stevens connects with the loaded glove for his version of Blunt Force Trauma, and Silvio comes to check his client as the ref counts him out.

Your Winner via Referee Countout:  Carnage

After the match, Storm comments on the matter with Galli, and Dane is within earshot of those remarks and he stares down the former world champion turned broadcaster.  Galli addresses the matter, and Storm brushes it off, stating he is just commentary and not to worry about it.

Methinks there be doings a-transpirin’ down the road to NWA 75.  But we’ll have to speculate later since the next match is between…

Mike Knox and Trevor Murdoch vs. The Alpha Kings (Schaff and Russ Jones)

Schaff is no stranger to wrestling fans in the DEFY promotion, and Russ Jones is a heavy hitter in his own right in the Midwest area.  However, Knox and Murdoch are still riding the high from winning The Crockett Cup last month.  Before anyone thinks this is going to be a tune-up match, the Crockett Cup champs are rocked early by the Kings and they continue their brand of violence until Murdoch and Knox beat some respect into both men.  Once they get back in the ring, Murdoch gets hit with a leg suplex by Jones and Schaff follows up with a cannonball in the corner.  Murdoch is in trouble until he throws Schaff through the ring post, and chops hard on the big man.  He gets to his corner and we see the tag chemistry as Knox helps Murdoch give an assisted leg drop to Schaff and both men are not letting up.  Murdoch drives Schaff down to the mat with a pop-up powerbomb and Jones breaks the count.  Knox gets the powerbomb to Jones and he rolls out, and they deliver the high/low finisher on Schaff for the three count.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox

May Valentine is backstage with Big Strong Mims on facing Blake”Bulletproof” Troop later tonight. While his Magnum Muscle partner Dak Draper is nowhere to be found currently, Mims is confident because he has researched Troop and he knows he is a SVG.  But he says he has a big heart and a strong mind and doesn’t let fear rule his life. Mims won’t back down.

Let’s hope that’s the case since the next match is…

“Big Strong” Mims vs. Blake “Bulletproof” Troop (with Chris Silvio, Esq.)

Galli mentions that Troop’s received a second-place medal from the Jiu Jitsu World League tournament held earlier in July in Los Angeles, but has his ribs taped up as a result of an incident that happened during said competition.

This is a power (Mims) versus tech prowess (Troop) match, and neither man is giving an inch.  Troop is beginning to feel the effect of his ribs, and Mims catches him in an airplane spin, and then a thunderous clothesline to cover for a count of two.  Troop has a few moves up his sleeve and traps Mims in his patented leg submission, but Mims grabs the bottom ropes and he hangs on until Bulletproof is given the five count by the ref, but the damage is done.  Troop focuses his offense on the bad wheel, but Mims counters by attacking the bruised ribs, and he cinches to a bear hug on the SVG.  He can’t quite lift the taller Troop and Mims proceeds to shove him into the corner turnbuckles to take the wind out of his sails.  Troop rakes Mims eyes and then works the leg in the center with the same submission. Mims valiantly crawls to the ropes but he passes out from the pain, and the ref calls it.

Your Winner via Submission:  Blake “Bulletproof” Troop

Valentine is speaking with Eric Jackson about next week’s tag match against Fodder, but he is nowhere to be seen. Jackson talks about Robert Anthony being his tag partner, and that brings out Fodder and Angelina Love.  The “Psycho Boy” promises Jackson next week that when he comes out, he will destroy him and Anthony.

Speaking of tag team action, let’s head to ringside for a non-title matchup with…

The Country Gentlemen (AJ Cazana, and Anthony Andrews) vs. Odinson & Jordan Clearwater

Cazana and Andrews are looking for redemption from their early exit on Night One of the Crockett Cup at the hands of Odinson and Kratos.  Clearwater is replacing the Most Feared and he wants to start off right away and Odinson lets The Golden Boy do just that.  He faces against Cazana and then he and Andrews make quick tags to keep Clearwater isolated in the corner.  As they attempt a double suplex, Odinson sets his tag partner down. The ref tries to restore order, in the fracas Clearwater rakes his eyes and tags Odinson, who tees off on Cazana, and Asgardian offense is the rule here.  Then he and Clearwater take the fight to Cazana who is a Gentleman in Peril.  He fights his way out and gives Clearwater a huge lariat, and then manages the hot tag to Andrews and he is a Thoroughbred en Fuego.  Andrews goes up top and leaps, and Odinson connects with an Asgardian uppercut in midair, and then Clearwater nails a Midas Touch to Cazana to send him out of the ring and Odinson delivers the Asgardian Pounce for the pin and the win on the NWA US Tag Team Champions.

Your Winners via Pinfall:  Jordan Clearwater and Odinson

It’s DLZ with Danny Dealz on the latest updates in the NWA, and he mentions that Mims has been sent to the hospital.  As he goes over whatever clickbait he can find, NWA Television Champion Thom Latimer wanders into the camera shot and gives a kiss to the missus, Kamille, and she says he will get the Lucky Seven wins to claim a spot for the Ten Pounds of Gold.

Who am I to argue with The Brickhouse?

Valentine is backstage now with Dak Draper and she asks him to address the rumors that Mims left ringside with a hamstring injury.  Draper stops texting on his phone long enough to wish his tag partner a speedy recovery.  But on his mind is the opportunity to hang with the big boys for the recently vacated NWA National title, and he will claim the title. If no one thinks he can do that, then shame on you.

Interesting phrase to use (or return back to, if you recall his last run with Ring of Honor)

Now it’s time for the Main Event, and this is for the…

NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship: Kerry Morton(c)(with Ricky Morton) vs. Matt Vine

The newest member of The Fixers, LLC., comes out by his lonesome but he is presenting more confidence going into this match.  He even shocks the champ by coming out strong right of the gate, and he gives a series of arm drags to the younger Morton.  He goes for another, but Kerry puts on the brakes and he tries to slow the tempo of the action in the squared circle.  Vine comes back with a sit-out hip toss, but Kerry gets back to hurting Vine.  He targets Vine’s leg and then slams it on the apron.  He chops away at the upstart and attempts to follow up with a corner splash, but gets caught with a back elbow.  The momentum shifts to Vine as he lands a belly-to-back suplex and follows up with a nice uranage for a two count.  Kerry rolls out of the ring and he and Ricky are trying to call a timeout to no avail.  Vine grabs Kerry by the hair, but he stun guns his throat on the top rope and then nails the Kiss it Goodbye knee lift followed by the Showstopper to deliver Vine the one, two, and three.

Your Winner via Pinfall, and Still NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion:  Kerry Morton

Kerry is looking good in yet another title defense as the show goes to the credits.

NWA Powerrr - 07/25/2023
3.5

Final Thoughts:

Solid bell-to-bell action for this POWERRR episode, and they are laying the groundwork for some possible big matches down the road and potential breakups.  Dane and Troop had great matches, especially Troop who apparently is working through the injury.

For now, see ya in seven!
