Report: Plans put in place for CM Punk’s return to AEW

There has been a lot of speculation recently on if CM Punk will ever return to AEW and after his Instagram rampage less than a month ago, it seemed that would never happen. However, Fightful Select is reporting that there are tentative plans to have CM Punk return to AEW around the June 21 edition of Dynamite, which is going to be in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.

Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer is reporting that AEW might split their roster into two separate talent groups for a rumored Saturday night television show. This split would keep conflicting groups apart outside of pay-per-views.

Fightful included in their report that AEW is hoping to schedule a meeting between Punk and Chris Jericho. Punk called out Jericho in his Instagram post and Jericho has been very vocal about not wanting Punk back in AEW.

The meeting with Jericho is one thing, but it still seems there are much bigger issues to be resolved between Punk and The Elite. Punk is hoping to work a program with The Elite, but according to Fightful’s report, The Elite has no interest. I am sure that has something to do with the last time Punk was seen in AEW at the All Out scrum when he berated Hangman Page, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and many more members of the AEW roster.

That scrum led to a physical altercation backstage involving Punk, Omega, The Young Bucks, Ace Steel and other members of staff. The fallout from that incident led to the suspension of Punk and The Elite, but so far we have only seen The Elite return to AEW television.

Current AEW Tag Team Champion, Dax Harwood, has been trying to get Punk back in AEW in time for All In from Wembley Stadium. Harwood is hoping for a match with FTR teaming up with Punk to take on The Elite.
