Greetings and salutation! SummerSlam Sunday delivered major surprises, emotional moments and championship changes. The biggest event of the summer has arrived, and WWE is bringing the heat LIVE from the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN and we have a stacked night of championship battles, personal grudges, and career-defining moments. From legacy matches, to Human moneys on a pole matches, SummerSlam promises to bring the heat so without further ado, let’s get straight to the action.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett have the call, and your First Match is….

Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor: Number One Contender’s match

As Sami Zayn and Finn Balor were ready to get things started, newly re-appointed SmackDown GM comes out and says that to make things fair and for business he’s adding a third person to the match. Out comes Gunther! But that’s not all as Aldis says he is making it a 4-way match and that fourth person is a returning Kevin Owens! And now the match is a 4-way match to determine the number 1 contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Kevin Owens vs. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor

Michael Cole noted that many wondered if Owens would ever compete again following his neck surgery, making his return to action an even more meaningful moment. SummerSlam got underway, and Owens wasted no time throwing himself into the fight, immediately targeting Gunther. Sami Zayn watched in disbelief from the corner as Owens unleashed a pair of cannonballs, taking out Gunther and Finn Bálor in opposite corners of the ring.

As Owens stood tall in the ring as Zayn slowly walked to his longtime friend and rival. The two shared an emotional embrace before the competitive fire took over, with Owens and Zayn exchanging punches. Moments later, Owens took the fight to the outside, launching himself from the top rope with a Swanton Bomb that wiped out all three of his opponents.

Back inside the ring, Gunther shifted the momentum by taking control of Zayn, punishing him with brutal knees to the midsection and a thunderous chop. The Intercontinental Champion soaked in the reaction from the crowd as he dominated the match and reminded everyone why he is one of WWE’s most dangerous competitors.

Later in the match, Finn Bálor looked to capitalize on a fallen Zayn, but Owens intervened and knocked him off the top turnbuckle. Owens attempted another Swanton Bomb, but Zayn countered by raising his knees, leaving Owens clutching at his surgically repaired neck.

The referee stepped in to keep Zayn away, but Zayn eventually charged toward Owens looking for the Helluva Kick. Before he could connect, Gunther intercepted him, locking in a sleeper hold and dragging him down to the mat.

Balor broke up the submission attempt with a Coup de Grâce onto Zayn, but it was only enough for a near fall. As the action continued, Owens fired back with Stunners to both Balor and Gunther. Zayn countered the Stunner with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a close 2-count. Zayn prepared for the Helluva Kick, but Owens hit a Superkick, followed by a Stunner and covered Zayn for the DUB.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Trick Williams (c) vs. Baron Corbin – U.S. Championship

The United States Championship clash between Trick Williams and Baron Corbin got off to a chaotic start before the opening bell even rang. After Trick struck Corbin, the referee decided to officially start the match. AND HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOO.

Trick immediately took control, sending Corbin over the top rope with a clothesline before following him to the outside. Williams continued the attack by driving Corbin into the barricade and pulling out a sponsored table from underneath the ring, setting it up at ringside while Corbin regrouped inside the ring.

When Trick returned, Corbin avoided the champion’s offense by slipping out of the ring. Trick chased after him, but Corbin caught him off guard with a devastating Deep Six on the floor. Corbin then took control of the match, punishing Trick with heavy strikes and targeting him with relentless aggression once they returned to the ring.

Corbin continued beating down the champion, attacking his eye before sending him back to the outside. When Corbin followed, Lil Yachty stepped in and confronted him. Corbin shoved Yachty to the ground, which made him mad and made him get his kendo stick. Corbin retreated back into the ring, where Trick was waiting.

Williams fired back with a neckbreaker, a series of kicks, and a Bookend that nearly ended the match. Trick looked to lift Corbin onto his shoulders, but Corbin countered by raking his eyes while the referee’s view was blocked. Corbin attempted to capitalize, but Yachty struck him with the kendo stick from ringside without the referee noticing. Trick followed up with a Death Valley Driver-style maneuver, but Corbin managed to kick out before the 3-count.

Corbin grabbed the United States Championship and looked to use the title as a weapon. Lil Yachty got in his face and Trick attacked Corbin, but the challenger crashed into Yachty, sending him off the apron and through the table set up at ringside. With the referee distracted by Yachty’s fall, Corbin blasted Trick with the championship belt and followed it up with End of Days and covered Williams for the 3-count.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill vs. Chelsea Green vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Lash Legend: Ladder Match for the Interim WWE Women’s Championship

Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Chelsea Green, Charlotte Flair, and Lash Legend battled in a high-stakes ladder match where anything could happen and anything did happen. Even before the official start, Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair came face-to-face on the floor and immediately began brawling. The ladders surrounding the ring became weapons almost immediately. Lash Legend showcased her power by tossing Stratton and Green into chairs at ringside, leaving Stratton clutching the back of her head. Legend then sent Green over the barricade as she dominated the early stages of the match.

Stratton recovered and returned to the ring, where she and Green worked together to take down Jade and Lash. However, the alliance didn’t last long, as Legend and Cargill fought back with simultaneous pump kicks that dropped both women. Jade took control by launching Lash out of the ring with a German suplex before Charlotte Flair entered the fight with a top-rope crossbody onto Cargill. Flair grabbed a ladder and used it to attack Jade, sending her crashing through the ropes to the floor. Flair then positioned the ladder in the corner of the ring, but Lash interrupted her momentum by dumping her to the outside.

With the championship hanging above the ring, Lash climbed a ladder, but Stratton stopped her in her tracks with a Codebreaker off the ropes. Stratton celebrated with the crowd before Flair returned, leading to a heated exchange between the two former champions. The pair traded forearms and elbows before Flair gained the advantage, sending Stratton crashing onto a ladder positioned across the middle rope.

Chelsea Green later found herself alone in the ring and made her attempt to capture the championship, but Jade returned and pulled her off the ladder. Cargill then delivered a Jaded onto the ladder, leaving Green down. The action continued with Lash and Stratton battling near the ropes with a ladder positioned between them. Stratton attempted a hurricanrana, but Lash countered with a powerbomb that sent Stratton crashing onto the ladder. Flair went for it, but Jade pulled the ladder away, leaving Flair hanging from the title before she was pulled down.

Jade and Lash continued their assault on Flair, with Cargill driving Flair into a ladder set up in the corner. Lash attempted another powerbomb on Stratton, but this time Stratton countered with a hurricanrana that sent both competitors into the ladder.

Stratton later climbed the ladder and reached for the championship, but Chelsea Green stopped her by tipping the ladder over. Stratton fell from the top of the ladder onto the competitors waiting below, creating one of the biggest moments of the match. THIS IS IT. Green is alone with the belt……BUT

B-Fab and Michin then entered the ring to stop Chelsea Green from winning the championship. Green found herself caught upside down on the ladder, allowing the two women to attack her while Michael Cole reminded viewers that ladder matches have no disqualifications. Jade returned to the ring and received assistance from B-Fab and Michin as she attempted to climb the ladder. However, Charlotte Flair fought off Jade’s allies and joined Cargill on the ladder. Stratton and Lash soon joined them, but all four competitors were knocked down during the struggle.

Chelsea Green was still tangled upside down on the ladder made a miraculous recovery and made her way back into position and climbed the ladder, reached the top, and pulled down the championship to secure the win and the WWE Women’s Championship, interim that is….

Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio – Human Monies on a Pole

The strange “Human Monies on a Pole” match started with Dominik Mysterio immediately going after the money bag, but Danhausen stopped him before he could claim the prize. JD McDonagh soon interfered, trying to help Dominik, but the match rules prevented the referee from stopping him. Three Minihausens came out and we even got an appearance from “Toritohausen,” according to Michael Cole.

One Minihausen hit Dominik with a hurricanrana before diving onto him at ringside. Danhausen nearly grabbed the money, but McDonagh stopped him again. Joe Hendry arrived and attacked McDonagh with his guitar, leaving him out. Back in the ring, Dominik attempted to retrieve the money, but Danhausen cursed him, causing pyro to go off and knocking Dominik off the ropes. Danhausen climbed up and pulled down the money bag to win.

Winner: Danhausen

After the match Joe Hendry, the MiniHausens and Danhausen passed off the money to the crowd and we all rejoiced.

Penta (c) vs. Chad Gable – Intercontinental Championship

Penta and Chad Gable delivered a hard-fought battle for the Intercontinental Championship. After a respectful handshake, Gable took control early with a series of German suplexes, but Penta targeted Gable’s injured shoulder. Penta went for the shoulder…respectfully through the match.

The action spilled outside, with Penta hitting a dive and later connecting with a Penta Driver for a near fall. Gable fought back with a German suplex on the apron and a moonsault to the outside, continuing to battle through the pain.

Later on, Penta hit a Mexican Destroyer on the apron and nearly scored the win, but Gable survived and locked in the ankle lock, dragging Penta back to the center of the ring when he tried to escape. Unable to break the hold, Penta was forced to tap out.

Winner and NEW Champion: Chad Gable

After the match, an emotional Chad Gable sat in the corner of the ring holding the Intercontinental Championship as tears streamed down his face. Replay footage showed his family celebrating his victory before Penta returned to the ring to place the title around Gable’s waist and share a hug with him. Gable’s family joined him in the ring, including his son, who wore matching gear to his father. The crowd responded with a loud “You deserve it” chant.

Gable addressed the fans, proudly stating that he was born and raised in Minneapolis and thanking his family for supporting him through every high and low. He raised the championship as fireworks erupted on the stage, celebrating one of the biggest moments of his career. This was a great contrast to his speech after being unmasked and marked a special moment for everyone.

Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins – World Heavyweight Championship

Alicia Taylor handled the introductions with Shawn Bennett serving as referee as Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins finally settled their rivalry in a hard-hitting championship battle. The two rivals exchanged words before the match and right from the get go, it turned into a fight. The action spilled into the crowd, where Reigns delivered a suplex onto a steel…something. Rollins answered right back with a diving knee strike before the match returned ringside.

Reigns gained the advantage by powerbombing Rollins through the Spanish announce table, but Rollins responded by sending Reigns crashing through the English announce table with a powerbomb of his own. Both men barely beat the referee’s count to 10 back into the ring. Rollins connected with a Pedigree, but Reigns kicked out. The two traded all the moves throughout the match, with Superman Punches, Stomps, Spears, and counters keeping both competitors on the edge of victory.

The rivalry reached a personal point when Reigns and Rollins exchanged words in the ring, leading to a chaotic sequence that saw the referee taken out twice. Rollins grabbed a steel chair, but Reigns refused to use it, throwing it aside and choosing to settle things one-on-one. Seth Rollins with a Moxley Rebound Lariat on Roman Reigns, and Reigns followed it up by performing the Dirty Deeds/Death Rider. Michael Cole also acknowledged the tribute by mentioning Moxley’s WWE name, Dean Ambrose, during this part.

The match kept going with near falls and we saw both men trade strikes before Rollins landed another Pedigree and went for a Stomp, but Reigns avoided the first one, but was hit with the second one. Rollins climbed the rope for a Super Stomp from the top rope, but Reigns moves out of the way and catches Rollins with two devastating Spears. With the referee miraculously back, Reigns covered Rollins for the W.

Winner: Roman Reigns (retains)

After the match, Reigns and Rollins do a Shield pose as Rollins puts the mask in the middle of the ring. This is the end of an era…..And that was SummerSlam.
