WWE NXT opened with a video package looking back at the major moments from Sunday’s NXT Great American Bash before Vic Joseph and Booker T welcomed viewers to the show.
Fresh from capturing the NXT Women’s Championship, Kendal Grey made her way to the ring to address the NXT Universe for the first time as champion. Grey admitted she was more nervous speaking to the fans than she had been competing for the title, revealing that public speaking had never come naturally to her.
The new champion reflected on her journey to the top, recalling how her career changed after John Cena selected her for the 2025 Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge. She acknowledged the expectations that came with that opportunity and admitted she had often questioned whether she truly belonged in NXT after repeatedly falling short in championship opportunities.
Grey contrasted herself with former champion Lola Vice, explaining that she realised after sitting across from Vice during last week’s contract signing that they represented two very different types of champions. While Vice embodied glamour and confidence, Grey insisted she would always remain true to herself, joking that she usually wipes off most of the makeup applied to her before appearing on television.
Although she could not promise to speak like a champion, Grey vowed to wrestle like one. She welcomed the target that now comes with holding the NXT Women’s Championship and warned the rest of the women’s division that once they stepped into the ring with her, they would be competing at her pace.
The celebration was interrupted by Wren Sinclair, who arrived carrying a two-tier cake to celebrate both her own victory and Grey’s championship success at The Great American Bash. Before the pair could enjoy the moment, Kelani Jordan interrupted and wasted little time demanding an NXT Women’s Championship opportunity.
Jordan’s challenge was cut short when Tatum Paxley attacked her from behind with a crossbody from the barricade. The pair immediately brawled through the crowd and towards the backstage area while Grey and Sinclair shrugged off the chaos by sharing the celebratory cake to officially welcome viewers to NXT.
The action quickly shifted backstage, where officials discovered AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo del Vikingo lying injured after an assault.
Keanu Carver stood over the fallen champion, armed with a lead pipe, and declared that EK Prosper‘s scheduled AAA Latin American Championship match was no longer happening. Robert Stone and several officials rushed to check on Vikingo while Carver calmly walked away from the scene.
Following the commercial break, an angry Kelani Jordan confronted Stone over Paxley’s attack. Stone responded by making Jordan versus Paxley official for later in the evening, then immediately tracked down Carver to inform him that he would instead face Prosper in singles competition.
WWE NXT Tag Team Championship: The Vanity Project (Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes) (c) vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno
The first championship match of the evening saw The Vanity Project defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno.
Galeno opened the contest against Ricky Smokes before Brad Baylor quickly inserted himself into the match. Wagner Jr. responded in kind, immediately taking the fight to Baylor with a flurry of right hands before launching himself over the top rope to wipe out both champions on the outside.
Despite the challengers’ explosive start, the champions weathered the early storm and isolated Wagner Jr. throughout the commercial break. Baylor and Smokes worked with frequent tags, cutting the ring in half before planting Wagner Jr. with a double sidewalk slam to maintain control.
Back from the break, Galeno received the hot tag and immediately shifted the momentum. He bulldozed through Baylor with shoulder tackles before dropping Smokes with a kick and trapping Baylor in the corner for a series of clotheslines. A bodyslam and running splash nearly earned the challengers the victory before Smokes broke up the cover.
Galeno dumped Smokes to the floor and then dragged him back inside before delivering a step-up knee strike. Wagner Jr. re-entered the match moments later, knocking Baylor off the apron before combining with Galeno for an impressive shotgun dropkick in the corner. Baylor narrowly preserved the titles by placing Smokes’ foot on the bottom rope to break the ensuing pinfall.
That brief distraction proved decisive.
Smokes capitalised by rolling Wagner Jr. up before Baylor tagged himself in. The champions followed with a devastating dropkick-spinebuster combination before finishing the contest with their double stomp and reverse DDT combination to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Winners: The Vanity Project
Backstage, Robert Stone’s office quickly descended into chaos as several teams demanded an opportunity at the NXT Tag Team Championship.
BirthRight’s Uriah Connors and Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, OTM, Sean Legacy and his partner, DarkState’s Osiris Griffin and Cutler James, all made their case, while Noam Dar attempted to argue that he and Romeo Moreno also deserved consideration.
Stone eventually restored order by announcing a Fatal Four-Way Number One Contender’s Match involving Connors and Lorenzo, OTM, Legacy’s team and DarkState. Dar and Moreno were left disappointed after Stone informed them they still needed to build their resume before receiving a championship opportunity.
Jackson Drake vs. Mason Rook
Mason Rook looked to continue building momentum when he faced Jackson Drake in singles competition.
Rook immediately imposed his power advantage, rocking Drake with a pair of thunderous chops before scoring an early near fall. During the match, Booker T received a video message from Kam Hendrix, who revealed he was nearing medical clearance to return to action.
Drake gradually slowed the pace by targeting Rook during the commercial break, connecting with a kick to the spine before following with a diving dropkick from the top rope.
Rook exploded back into the contest after the interval. A series of chops, a back body drop, spinning slam and cannonball in the corner brought him within touching distance of victory, but Drake refused to stay down.
The closing stages became increasingly frantic. Drake countered a sit-out powerbomb attempt with a shotgun dropkick before connecting with a Tornado DDT and several near falls. Rook answered with another crushing sit-out powerbomb and appeared set to finish the match.
Instead, the Vanity Project once again became the deciding factor.
As Bryce Donovan distracted the referee, Ricky Smokes entered the ring looking to interfere. Rook neutralised Smokes and accidentally wiped out Baylor on the outside, but Jackson Drake seized the opportunity by planting Rook with a backstabber. With Bryce Lockwood holding onto Rook’s foot for additional leverage behind the referee’s back, Drake secured the controversial three-count.
Winner: Jackson Drake
After the bell, a furious Rook vented his frustration by flattening Baylor with a clothesline before sending Smokes crashing into his own partner, leaving The Vanity Project retreating after another chaotic encounter.
Backstage, Kali Armstrong attempted to convince Robert Stone that she deserved the next opportunity at Kendal Grey’s newly won NXT Women’s Championship.
Stone remained unconvinced, reminding Armstrong that actions speak louder than words before refusing to hand her an immediate title shot.
Keanu Carver vs. EK Prosper
After earlier attacking El Hijo del Vikingo, Keanu Carver now had to answer for his actions inside the ring against EK Prosper.
Carver overwhelmed Prosper in the opening moments with his size and power, but Prosper refused to back down. He used his speed to send Carver tumbling over the top rope before catching him with a Tornado DDT on the floor and following up with a Frog Splash back inside the ring.
Carver survived the early assault and slowed the pace with a prolonged submission during the commercial break before using his power advantage to toss Prosper across the ring.
Prosper eventually regained momentum by sending Carver to the outside and looking for another aerial attack. This time, Carver anticipated it, driving Prosper face-first into the announce desk before rolling him back into the ring.
Just as Carver looked poised to finish the match, Hank Ledger emerged and speared him through part of the ringside barricade while the referee’s attention remained on Prosper.
Carver barely beat the official’s ten-count, but Prosper was waiting for him. A Shining Wizard, followed by a picture-perfect moonsault from the top rope, finally put Carver away.
Winner: EK Prosper
The victory gave Prosper a measure of revenge after Carver’s earlier backstage assault on Vikingo, while Ledger’s involvement suggested Carver’s issues outside the ring are far from over.
Following EK Prosper’s victory, attention returned to the NXT Women’s Championship picture.
Backstage, Robert Stone met with newly crowned champion Kendal Grey when Nattie, Layla Diggs, Nikkita Lyons and Karmen Petrovic arrived to make their respective cases for a title opportunity. Nattie was the most vocal of the group, and Stone ultimately agreed to grant the WWE Hall of Famer an NXT Women’s Championship match against Grey in the near future.
Jaida Parker vs. Karmen Petrovic
Jaida Parker looked to continue her impressive run when she squared off against Karmen Petrovic.
Parker wasted little time asserting herself, driving Petrovic into the canvas with an oblique breaker before following up with her trademark Hip Attack. However, a brief confrontation with Nattie at ringside created an opening for Petrovic, who tripped Parker on the apron before repeatedly driving her face-first into the turnbuckles.
Petrovic continued to build momentum with Sole Food and a flurry of kicks to Parker’s chest, pushing her close to an upset victory.
Parker weathered the storm and answered emphatically, catching Petrovic with a thunderous sit-out powerbomb to score the decisive pinfall.
Winner: Jaida Parker
The victory kept Parker firmly in the championship conversation, while her interactions with Nattie hinted at further issues within the increasingly competitive women’s division.
NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo then headed to the ring to address the NXT Universe following his successful title defence against Naraku at The Great American Bash.
D’Angelo admitted the attack on his eye last week had left him wondering whether he would ever see properly again. Sitting in the ambulance, he questioned whether defending the championship despite his injury was worth the risk, but ultimately decided nothing would stop him from competing.
With his successful title defence now behind him, D’Angelo turned his attention towards the future.
He warned every superstar in the locker room that while they may want the NXT Championship, none of them were prepared to sacrifice what was necessary to take it from him. Declaring himself the master of his own fate, D’Angelo challenged anyone to prove they were willing to go deeper than he was.
As Kendal Grey made her way back through the entranceway following her earlier appearance, she shared a respectful fist bump with D’Angelo.
The celebration was short-lived.
Naraku suddenly emerged from behind and blindsided D’Angelo, dragging him from the entrance ramp before driving him onto a steel chair with a devastating Russian Leg Sweep at ringside. The vicious attack left the NXT Champion laid out once again, making it clear that Naraku’s issues with D’Angelo were far from settled despite Sunday’s defeat.
Kelani Jordan vs. Tatum Paxley
The night’s main event saw Kelani Jordan finally get her hands on Tatum Paxley after the pair’s earlier backstage confrontation.
Jordan’s athleticism initially allowed her to gain the upper hand, but Paxley slowed the pace by trapping her in a prolonged submission before countering Jordan’s attempted springboard moonsault with a kick on the outside.
The match took another unexpected turn when Kali Armstrong attacked Kendal Grey at the commentary desk while Grey was providing guest commentary on the bout.
Inside the ring, Paxley continued targeting Jordan before Jordan shifted her focus to Paxley’s right ankle. The former champion repeatedly attacked the injured limb throughout the commercial break, forcing Paxley to fight through obvious discomfort.
Paxley refused to stay down and rallied with a standing Spanish Fly before delivering an enzuigiri from the ring apron and locking Jordan in a crossface.
Jordan survived the submission before brilliantly exploiting the damaged ankle once more. She trapped Paxley’s leg on the top rope, drove a pump kick into it from the apron, then hoisted her onto her shoulders before planting her with a spinning slam.
A split-legged moonsault moments later sealed the victory.
Winner: Kelani Jordan
Jordan barely had time to celebrate before the show took another dramatic turn.
The woman formerly known as Nikki Blackheart stormed to the ring from behind and blindsided Paxley in a shocking post-match assault.
With Jordan looking on from a distance, the returning star hoisted Paxley into a Torture Rack and left her writhing in pain as officials rushed towards the ring.
The broadcast faded to black with the mystery surrounding Blackheart’s return only adding further intrigue to an eventful edition of NXT that established multiple championship rivalries. Kendal Grey’s emotional first address as champion, Tony D’Angelo’s warning to the locker room, fresh contenders emerging across both divisions and the stunning closing attack ensured plenty of momentum heading into next week’s show.
