Well, if there’s one thing I absolutely love is when blindfolded people remove what obscured their eyes from seeing what was right in front of them. No more excuses or false narratives to avoid accountability. That’s more of a personal glimpse into my life, but it doesn’t mean it can’t hold merit elsewhere.
Randy Orton told Cody Rhodes that he won’t be the one to extinguish the Legend Killer because Rhodes will always hesitate, he will not stoop to levels he can’t fully acknowledge lives within him. You only beat someone to the point of incapacitating the other, but not too far, so you may lose yourself.
Rhodes spoiled that no matter how many records Orton breaks, he will always return to Cody because he’s the one who will end him.
Giulia’s entrance reminded me of Asuka. The mystique, the ominous air that she’s definitely a threat. Unfortunately, that was abruptly cut short since her opponent, Blake Monroe, who’s been attacking people from behind since arriving, did the same to Giulia. The utter surprise on Giulia’s face was honest. Monroe even used Arriverderci just to prove her point. The Neutralizer was the final straw for the referee to step in. The match never even started.
During a Tag Team Championship match, Damien Priest was going at it somewhat alone since R-Truth was taken out earlier and hasn’t gotten up. That high leg strike from Priest to Talla was stellar. Plus that face plant to Tama continued to go in the right direction. And speaking of direction, I’m still waiting for Truth to act like himself again. Paying tribute to John Cena is fine, but when that becomes your personality now, it’s tedious to the mind.
Anyway, Truth didn’t stand a chance against the Red Cross High Low from the Tongans, resulting in a failure to recapture gold. Not everything has to end up in a betrayal, but given how much that tends to happen, I half expected Damien to knockout Truth, even though that’s not how Tag Teams work.
Since we’re on the concept of teams, Lil Yatchy has been EVERYWHERE. His presence causes a misbalance between Trick Williams and whoever he’s looking at on the other side of the ring. It’s made even more apparent when Baron Corbin refused to give Williams another title shot. Yatchy used his kendo stick to hit Corbin. Given Trick wouldn’t take no for an answer, Corbin decided that he will get his Championship match if Yatchy can live for more than five minutes in the ring with him on Sunday Night’s Main Event. Amazingly so, Yatchy accepted.
Shinsuke Nakamura revealed who his partner is in Kyoki. “He doesn’t fear chaos, he enjoys it.” said Nakamura as he warned Tama and Talla Tonga that their reigns as Champions is on a temporary road that collides with Strong Style and madness.
During a match between Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend, Tiffy did her best but was unsuccessful in her attempt. The Irresistible Forces were so elated with themselves that they assaulted Stratton after the fight concluded. Despite not being medically cleared, Chelsea Green rushed over to help Stratton from enduring an even bigger ambush.
Kevin Owens vs. CM Punk (c) – Undisputed Heavyweight Championship match
Right out of the gate, Kevin was unleashing hell on Punk. Owens chased after his opponent on the outside and got stomped on for a bit. At that moment, Punk thought he had the upper hand, but Owens dropped him on the ropes, then delivered a clothesline. Those chops to Punk’s chest were brutal. CM’s momentary unrecognized persona was taken down by KO’s Senton.
Owens was so pissed, so irate by Punk’s presence that it showed in the aggression he displayed in the match. He really hates Punk. Not that I didn’t believe him, but… this simply added to the point. Kevin has been levelling the champ with every chance he got, and CM barely, if we’re being honest, got an impactful strike. His endurance did show panache, that I know Punk won’t go down easily.
From the barrier, Owens body splashed Punk onto the commentary table. He came close to claiming gold after the addition of the Swanton. A Pop-up Powerbomb went sideways when Punk managed to dodge it. He retaliated with numerous kicks, one of which sent Owens to the mat on wobbly legs. The champ told Owens to suck it when he came down with the elbow drop. It failed, so he ventured further by applying the Anaconda Vise submission hold.
Just when Punk wrote off Owens after that hold, he found himself in a Sharpshooter. Annoyingly so, Punk was able to reach the bottom rope to cancel the hold. Even more so, Owens had Punk beat if he didn’t insist on shoving the Champion into the official. Christ… CM decided to follow in the same stupidity with a lateral press with NO referee.
Sami Zayn made his way to the ring to help KO despite being told not to. He gave Punk whiplash, then shoved both him and the official back inside the ring only for Owens to not win. It was very, very close. While Dan Engler was still suffering on the apron, Sami slid the title belt towards Owens for use.
Kevin’s morals didn’t sit right with Zayn, so he clocked him with the title to his head. Punk was able to retain… irritatingly. Happily for me, Owens wasn’t the only victim. Sami bulldozed Punk, too.
Winner: CM Punk
