Given how Rhea Ripley is suffering from an injury, she will no longer be competing at SunmerSlam, so Adam Pearce has made official preparations in the form of a Ladder match where five women will fight for the WWE Women’s Championship. And when Ripley does return, we’ll see who she’ll face to get her title back.
I’ve been away for some time now, so the news that Gunther and Sami Zayn will be teaming together against the likes of CM Punk and Cody Rhodes tomorrow at Saturday Night’s Main Event was befuddling. The lengths that people go to to continue their foolishness is astounding. Ha! Gunther came to the stage to rightfully complaint that he should be Champion right now and… suggested that Aldis’ jealousy might be the cause.
When Pearce came out to remind Gunther of his past deeds that somewhat led to his current state. If the Ring General were on RAW, Adam spoiled that he would have fired him. Pearce continued to narrate that if Gunther hadn’t choked out Nick, he would have been informed about the stipulation. Once again, if Sami and Gunther are successful tomorrow, the General would have been told of his addition to the title match at SummerSlam, turning it into a Fatal 4-Way.
But… Rhodes had to decent at that moment to force Pearce to officiate a match tonight with Gunther and Cody.
Talla Tonga vs. Finn Balor
Tonga whipped Balor into the corner as he collided with it pretty harshly. Amazingly so, Tama Tonga was seen watching from the main floor. In the centre of the ring, Finn did his best by throwing a couple of low-strike punches to Talla’s abdomen, but to no avail. The man simply drove Finn’s face against the turnbuckle. A sickening clothesline soon followed.
Tama tried to distract the referee, but luckily, Finn was able to avoid disaster as Talla’s leg got caught in the ropes. Once Talla was momentarily repelled, Balor saw Tama charging at him, so he delivered an effective Slingblade on the ground floor. Back inside the ring, Finn performed two Coup de Grace to truly put Talla down.
Winner: Finn Balor
Well, it is official! Baron Corbin is coming for everybody’s ass. Ha! Commentators are thrilled by the dozen. Me? His ass didn’t skedaddle away in the first place for nothing, so I’ll wait. I won’t jump up in excitement just yet.
Tiffany Stratton was supposed to have a one-on-one Ladder qualifying match with Jacy Jayne, but the rest of Fatal Influence; Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, including Jayne herself took advantage of some pre-bell assaults on Stratton. To their surprise, the Women’s Tag Team Champions; Brie Bella and Paige, come to even the odds.
Jayne wasn’t looking at her opponent when the bell rang, so Tiffy was able to deliver a clothesline. Jacy may have been the one with the upper hand at the beginning, yet Stratton did provide some retaliation. An Alabama Slam was a delight to witness, alas, Jacy managed to cause some misbalance once Tiffy attempted to climb the ropes. Jayne was looking for the Rolling Encore, Stratton countered with a stunner and a winning Moonsault.
Right off the bat, Nia delivered a Samoan Drop on Jade, then followed that up with a leg drop across the throat of her challenger. Just as Jax was going to annihilate Cargill, the Storm rose and avoided mayhem with a Super Kick and a spine buster.
The match was still ongoing by the time Charlotte Flair showed up and tossed Michin into the timekeeper’s area. Her interference was due to what these three girls did to Alexa Bliss’ arm. An eye for an eye as Flair ventured to break Cargill’s arm with a chair. Jade escaped the threat when B-Fab and Michin pulled her out. Due to all this kerfuffle, somehow it ended with Cargill being the winner by disqualification.
You can’t blame Jax when she rammed Charlotte from behind and left the ring to the hyenas that were laying and waiting to do some damage.
The War Raiders vs. Fraxiom – Tag Team match
Ivar squashed both Axiom and Nathan like deflated balloons. He did a good job earlier, but he missed with a backflip Moonsault since the pair of them got out of the way in time. Ha! Ivar fumbled. Erik came back only to be kicked out again.
Frazer performed a masterful springboard 450, but it wasn’t enough. Nathan held onto Ivar, so his partner could nab him from the air. However, Ivar caught onto that real quick and delivered a lariat to Frazer. Axiom flew in anyway and was bulldozed by a massive boot to the face.
Erik used Ivar as a weapon to drop on top of Axiom, who’s wailing in the corner. Luckily, Frazer saved him during the cover. Up and over Nathan went to plough through Erik. Fraxiom worked together to slam Ivar with a superplex. A Phoenix Splash possibly, maybe, probably would have ended Ivar there if Erik hadn’t broken Nathan’s sea of vision.
Erik flipped and delivered a knee to the back of Axiom’s head. Frazer was laid out after that. Axiom got back to his wobbly feet and fell victim to the Ragnorok.
Winners: The War Raiders
So, that match that was meant to occur between Rhodes and Gunther started with some pre-mangling before the bell. That’s what CM Punk was worried about given they have a match together… Naturally, he came out as a cheerleader, I guess. A double lariat put both men down. Sami also arrived. Once Zayn shoved Cody into a post, the sanctioned fight didn’t matter as it never did in the first place.
Madness. Idiocy. Fisticuffs galore.
